Sharing the blog love Matt, Melody & Jenners have passed on a Friends Award to me. Isn’t that sweet? Well, as you know I’m always behind so I’m breaking blog rules and not passing it on to individual names but instead I’ll pass this poem on to all of you.
I was in the mood for some fun poetry and I thought, it’s time to dig out my Shel Silverstein book out. And I did and I have this for all of you – enjoy!
If The World Was Crazy
If the world was crazy, you know what I’d eat?
A big slice of soup and a whole quart of meat,
A lemonade sandwich, and then I might try
Some roasted ice cream or a bicycle pie,
A nice notebook salad, an underwear roast,
An omelet of hats and some crisp cardboard toast,
A thick malted milk made from pencils and daisies,
And that’s what I’d eat if the world was crazy.
If the world was crazy, you know what I’d wear?
A chocolate suit and a tie of eclair,
Some marshmallow earmuffs, some licorice shoes,
And I’d read a paper of peppermint news.
I’d call the boys “Suzy” and I’d call the girls “Harry,”
I’d talk through my ears, and I always would carry
A paper umbrella for when it grew hazy
To keep in the rain, if the world was crazy.
If the world was crazy, you know what I’d do?
I’d walk on the ocean and swim in my shoe,
I’d fly through the ground and I’d skip through the air,
I’d run down the bathtub and bathe on the stair.
When I met somebody I’d say “G’bye, Joe,”
And when I was leaving–then I’d say “Hello.”
And the greatest of men would be silly and lazy
So I would be king…if the world was crazy.
Hope you all have some wonderful, silly adventures this weekend. I have a big stack of books I want to dive into, a date night at the bookstore and some crafty pursuits to attend to. More book talk soon.
Yay for Shel Silverstein. This poem makes me smile – Thanks for sharing, Bookgirl.

FUN poem! May you have some silly fun adventures this weekend, too. We’re going to have a fun excursion, possibly to Long Island, definitely into CT and RI… I’ll bring my book to read in the car.

Thanks for the poem! My daughter and I love Shel Silverstein.
Silverstein is one of my favorites. I have an artist’s adaptation of the Giving Tree tattooed as a chest piece. From Collarbones, to belly button, armpit to armpit. It is beautiful. Gosh I love that book.
Thanks for a Friday smile. I have loved Shel Silverstein since I was a kid. My cousins and sisters and I used to act out his poetry for our parents when we got together at the holidays. So this takes me back to my childhood!
Anna – Glad you liked that. Your daughter is such a little bookworm – I love seeing her reviews!
Jessica – Get out, really? How cool is that. Yep, love his books.
Lexi – You bet 🙂 That is so cute that you guys used to do that! Was there a favorite poem?
You’ve been posting some great poems lately 🙂
Congrats on your awards (I’m not a “tagger” either, so I say, share the love with whoever is reading your blog!)
Oh I love Silverstein. Our teacher had us memorize a bunch of his and Jack Prelutsky’s poems when I was a kid. Congrats on your award!
Chocolate and eclair are my weakness! I wish you a great weekend. I’ve got to catch up on my blog reading and post writing. 🙂
What a fun poem! Thanks for giving me a smile today. 🙂

Dawn – I’m glad you are enjoying those! I re-read some favorite poems the other day so I’ll have to do another poem post soon 🙂
Ladytink – Ooh, Jack Prelutsky – now I don’t know who he is so I’m going to find his poems and see what I think! Isn’t Shel great? His poems make me smile.
Matt – Ha, me too! 🙂 The weekend has been fun and productive. Hope you’ve been catching up on your stuff and where were you by the way? Hopefully somewhere fun!
