Remember I had mentioned something about a library sale? Well I did go to one recently and here’s my loot.
I bought two P.D. James books and as I’ve read a couple of the Chief Inspector Dalgliesh books I’m glad I found these to continue with the series.
The Saturday Morning Murder and Bloodless Shadow are written by new to me mystery authors but the blurbs on the backs of these books make them sound very good indeed and even better, both are the first books in their respective series.
My Barbara Pym and Laurie Colwin libraries continue to grow. I have several books by each of these authors. And, the other books sounded too good to pass up.
Now the hard task is finding a spot for them on my shelves.

Who needs shelves, when you have a floor to pile them on? I love P.D. James. You’ve snagged some good ones!
Ooooh, I’ve had Baker Towers on my wish list for ages! Can’t wait to hear what you think!
Sandy – Ha,ha… Too true. At the rate I’m going the books are definitely going to end up on the floor 🙂
Les in NE – You know what’s sad, I’ve had her other book, Mrs. Kimble, on my shelves for ages! ha. I need to figure out a way to read faster 🙂
That’s a great stack! I’m another big P.D. James fan. 😀 And such good luck that both the new mysteries are the first in their series.
Okay, what a great haul! I love Crossing to Safety, one of my all-time favorite novels. Also enjoyed Crampton Hodnet (and pretty much any Pym), and any Laurie Colwin. My favorite of hers is The Lone Pilgrim, a collection of short stories, but I’ll ready anything she wrote. Enjoy!
Oh I wish I had shown as much reserve as you! I went both days my library had their sale this last weekend.
I bought 13 books the first day, and 8 the second.
I was able to find room on my shelves, but after I took off several anthologies and put them on my desk.
Enjoy your finds, they look great!
I’m not familiar with those authors except PD James. I haven’t read of his books yet but I hope to one of these days!
Happy reading, Iliana! 🙂
Looks good!
You’ve got yourself a good haul there! Enjoy!
Hey There!!!
Nice selection you got for yourself. I find these kind of book sales dangerous! 🙂
I have a new place to hang my hat and have missed you!
Good for you! You really managed a nice selection here!
Nice library sale finds! I miss library sales. Mine here don’t have them. They have a couple of stores inside a few of the libraries instead. It is fun to go look in the stores and I have found some good bargains but it isn’t quite the same as tables and boxes of books to paw through.
Eva – I know, what are the odds! I love starting at the beginning of a series so this is great!
gentle reader – I’ve only read one Pym book but I just know she’s an author I’m going to love the more I read. I know that sounds odd but I think sometimes you can really tell. And, good to hear about the Colwin book. I have been reading more short stories recently so I’ll have to look for that one!
J.C. Montgomery – Hee,hee… Well, I typically don’t have as much reserve but this time they seemed to have a lot of Danielle Steel like books. I didn’t go on the first day of the sale so I figure I might have missed out on some good stuff. Oh well, next time!
Melody – I hope you’ll check out P.D. James – very good stuff! 🙂
aka nik – 🙂
claire – I know, so excited!
Nancy – Oh my goodness, it’s so good to see you!! I’m definitely stopping by to see what you’ve been up to 🙂
jenclair – I’m surprised at the variety too. Usually it’s just mysteries so these were some nice finds!
Stefanie – I just found out that there’s a new library store in town! I must go check it out. I miss the old library sales I found in Dallas because they seemed to have lots more.
Oo! I love visiting your blog and getting new ideas of books to add to my wish list. I’ve really liked what I’ve read of P.D. James’ series so far. I hope to get back into it one of these days.
It’s been ages since I’ve been to a library sale. Since I don’t visit the library, I often don’t know when one might be held. Terrible, I know, but it’s probably for the best. At least my would say so. 🙂
Nice books! I have Crampton Hodnet someplace. I love those Pym covers.
Crossing to Safety is one of my favorite books, from one of my favorite writers. I’ve written briefly about his influence on me, but I don’t think I could recommend a writer or a novel more than Stegner’s Crossing.
holy cow…great shot of all that loot!
What a great pile! I’ve given up a little on finding spots on my shelves for all of my new purchases – it’s just not going to happen! I hope you enjoy Speak – I read it last year and thought it was brilliant.
lol, I love Sandy’s comment. So true! Gotta love library sales 😀
great books, enjoy them 🙂 I love library sales.
What nice books! Pym and James are great, and I’m looking forward to reading Colwin one of these days. Enjoy the new books!
beautiful heap of books. I am getting ready for my library sale. Enjoy some quality reading time with these! 🙂
Literary Feline – I used to visit the library a lot more when I lived in Dallas as the branch library I had near me rocked. And, I think they had more library sales up there too. Ah well, it’s not like I need to find more book sales right?! 😉
Tara – Those covers are great aren’t they? They remind me a bit of ornate wallpaper. Really set the mood for a different time. I need to figure out how many more of her books I need to complete my Pym collection!
Mike B. – Didn’t you post recently on Stegner? I feel like I read about Crossing to Safety recently. I loved his book Angle of Repose and it’s a bit sad I haven’t read anything else. Glad I found this book!
Serena – They all cooperated and stood very still 🙂
Karen – My poor bookshelves are buckling and I’ve got books double stacked and all that but oh well, it can’t be helped. I don’t think I can fit another bookcase in our apartment! haha.. I am looking forward to Speak and I understand she’s got a new book out or out soon which sounds really good.
Nymeth – She’s a smart cookie and I think I need to take that approach 🙂
bookworm – I love library sales too! Always amazing what gems you might find.
Dorothy W. – For some reason I thought you had read Colwin. Anyway, this one sounds good – about a woman trying to remain true to herself. Like those sort of books!
Matthew – Oh lucky you! I wish I had another sale to look forward to. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you find lots of goodies and of course you’ll have to post a picture 🙂
Nice choices! You were much more restrained than was at my library sale. I have that same edition of the Pym. I read Baker Towers a few years ago and recall enjoying it. And I need to get back to PD James as well. I have too many interesting mystery series that I follow and can never keep up!
Danielle – It’s hard to hold back isn’t it? Unfortunately I wasn’t there for the first day of the sale so there were a lot of romances to choose from but the other stuff wasn’t as varied. Glad to hear you liked Baker Towers. It looks good!
Isn’t that always the problem with new purchases — finding a place to put them? I often find it makes me reconsider what is sitting on my “main shelf” — some books get moved “upstairs,’ which is like the kiss of death! They may never be read!
