Thursday I was at BookPeople for a reading and book signing by Donna Tartt. There was a good turnout for the event and had to wait in line for quite a while before I got my book signed but it was a real pleasure to hear her read a bit from her latest book,The Goldfinch. I’m definitely looking forward to this even though it’s a bit of a chunkster at 784 pages. I may save it for some holiday reading.
Speaking of chunksters, I’m reading The Blind Side of the Heart by Julia Franck for German Literature month. I’m barely past page 50 and I think this is a book that’s going to take me a while to finish. The story begins with Peter being left behind at the train station by his mother.
I’m not sure why I thought this was going to be an “easy†read compared to some of the other books I have for German Literature month but it’s definitely not. What I mean is that this book is set during war time and for the most part I have a very hard time reading books with this setting. But, I do plan to continue my read and we’ll see how it goes.
Now the weekend is here, thank goodness, and I’m ready to enjoy it. One of my best friends is in town so I’m looking forward to some good girl talk. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and more book talk soon!
That’s amazing! She’s doing an event near me but it’s during a week when I’m out of town 🙁
Wow, I didn’t know that The Goldfinch was that long! Gah! But I’ve heard REALLY good things about it. For a book that long, I may have to turn to audio.
That’s awesome, gotta love singed copies. Enjoy The Goldfinch and good luck with The Blind Side of the Heart. I know what you mean about the setting.
wow – lucky you. It’s a wonderful novel so enjoy
I’ve been thinking that a good chunky book will fit in perfectly with this colder weather! I hope that you enjoy this one….and that you have had a great weekend as well!
Ana @ Things Mean A Lot – That’s too bad you won’t be able to go see her. It was an interesting reading. She didn’t seem too comfortable but once she got into reading her story it was really wonderful.
Sandy – I know, it’s really a chunkster isn’t it? I can imagine it’ll take me forever to finish it!
Bookworm – I have a small collection of signed copies – love ’em!
Diane @ Bibliophilebythesea – I remember your review so I’m really excited about this book!
Samantha – I know, chunksters do seem to go so well with Winter don’t they? I may save it for the holiday weekend as I hope to have a bit more free time.
Oh wow! Very cool you got to see her. Her new book looks like it is going to be so good!
SO JEALOUS!!! That BookPeople is so close to you AND that you got to go to the Tartt reading!
Austin offers opportunities that we simply don’t get here! Good for you–being able to hear Tart!
I haven’t decided if I want to read The Goldfinch or not, but if I had the chance to see the author, I would definitely go for it!
Getting signed copies are always fun and exciting! Enjoy the read.
