I was doing a bit of organizing on my computer and remembered I had some links to share so here are some fun ones for you to check out over the weekend.
- IndieBound – “When in the course of human events it becomes necessary for individuals to denounce the corporate bands which threaten to homogenize our cities and our souls, we must celebrate the powers that make us unique and declare the causes which compel us to remain independent.” Check out their links and find an independent bookseller near you. I’m really digging some of their t-shirts… Isn’t this one great?
- ReadingGroupGuidesBlog – I’ve been a fan of Reading Group Guides for a long time but just now found out they have a blog. Looks like I have some great reading I have to catch up on.
- The Short Review – I’m so behind on my Short Story Challenge but checking out this link with so many fabulous recommendations reminds me that I must not overlook short stories.
- Crime in the City – Did you catch the latest NPR Crime in the City highlight? I love it when they do this series on Morning Edition. Granted, I usually end up reading about it but still fun. I haven’t read the book they highlighted this time but I think I need to add it to my list. Anyone familiar with that series?
I have started a couple of new books but I’ll save that book talk for next post. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I was really impressed with IndieBound when they first released their new site a few months ago, after changing from… I’m sorry to say I forget what IndieBound sprang from. IndieBound is more public; the other group was more an internal, amongst indie booksellers group.
And I like the Indiebound shirts, but I like the ones on Unshelved too (it’s librarian humor). http://www.unshelved.com/store.aspx?cat=shirts
Thanks for the link to the REading Group Guides blog – I’ve added it to my Bloglines!
Have a great weekend!
You always find great links! Thanks for the updates
I had no idea Reading Group Guides had a blog! I can feel my itchy clicking finger getting ready to order something I shouldn’t!
Thanks for the links! I’ve never heard of ‘Crime in the City’- it looks wonderful!! Have a nice weekend :).
Hey! I just read the Crime in the City on NPR this morning! Crazy!
Love the Indiebound declaration…just wish more independent stores could meet the discounts that larger chain stores could. Makes it hard on the budget, despite how much I like Independent Stores. In some ways I am fortunate. When I lived in Tulsa I frequented a larger Indie store and didn’t think much about the money then (didn’t have a kid almost in college!). Here in KC there really isn’t one close, except used bookstores which I do frequent, so the feelings of being torn between supporting Indie shops and getting more bang for my book money doesn’t really come up.
Jena – Oh I didn’t realize IndieBound had a previous “life” so to say. And, yes, I do love those Unshelved t-shirts. The comic strip is great isn’t it?
Stephanie – I still need to add it to my bloglines too 🙂
nik – Thank you. Hope you enjoy yours with your hubby finally back!
Isabel – Ha,ha.. I’m just procrastinating doing household related things so I look for bookish links instead 🙂
Andi – I know, I can just see my TBR list exploding!
Greer – I love listening to the Crime in the City series on NPR. I think they need to do that more often!
Jessica – Ah, bookish synchronicity 🙂
Carl V. – I totally agree with you. Right now as I’m unemployed as much as I want to spend my money at the indie bookstores in my area, I have to rely more on half price books or Barnes & Noble where I can get a discount. I wish the indies could offer something like a frequent buyer card or similar you know….
I’ve been enjoying the Reading Group Guides Blog for quite some time now. Just need to make more time to keep current with the entries!
Have a great weekend! I have nothing on my calendar, so I’m hoping to catch up on my blog-hopping, clean the house, work on my photos from our trip, post a blog entry or two, write a review for Year of Wonders, do some laundry, and, oh yah, relax and read. I think I need more than two days!
I never listen to the radio anymore, but I feel like I am missing some good programs. I love the idea of the Crime in the City highlight–I’ll definitely have to check that one out!
Those are great! I need to do some catching up on the short story challenge as well. Thanks for sharing, Iliana 🙂
Les in NE – I should have caught up on my blog reading but I spent most of the weekend away from the computer – sometimes that’s a very good thing 🙂 Hope you enjoyed your weekend and I can’t wait to see what you thought of Year of Wonders!
Danielle – Now that I’m not working I don’t drive around as much so I don’t listen to the radio much either. I love NPR though and check in on their web site daily!
Nymeth – Glad you liked those. I’m hoping to get a bit more inspired to read short stories 🙂
A frequent buyer card for indie stores sounds like a great idea. Even something like Border’s does where you earn up points and also occasionally get a discount coupon in the email would help me be more willing to not be hypocritical about my desire to support indie stores and get cheap books. Of course I always feel for the people who work at stores like Borders, etc. as well…they certainly want to earn their paychecks and shouldn’t be vilified because of where they work…they certainly aren’t raking in the cash.
Carl V. – Oh I know what you mean. I think even if they had a “rewards” program like Borders it would at least help some. I hate having to spend money online at Amazon but most of the time that is the cheapest option. I wish there was a way we could do a bit more for the indies and also for our pocketbooks you know!
