You guys know I love a good mystery but I typically don’t read several at once. I usually like to have a mix of books going on but somehow I’ve ended up with four mysteries on my nightstand.
Last week I started Natural Causes by James Oswald which is the first in the Inspector McLean series. I’m very close to finishing this and have really enjoyed it. I think Inspector McLean is one character I will have to follow to see what he’s up to next.
I’m still listening to The Dying Hours by Mark Billingham. Unfortunately I think this mystery was a bit more complex than the first audio I listened to so I feel like I’ve missed a lot more and it hasn’t been as enjoyable. I think I’m about half way through this one though and who knows maybe I’ll end up really liking by the time I’m done with the audio.
Murder On Murray Hill by Victoria Thompson. I’ve been a big fan of this series as I love the setting and really like the main characters. This is the latest book, just came out on Tuesday, and I promptly had to get it and start it.
The Strange Fate of Kitty Easton by Elizabeth Speller. Ok, so technically I have not started this book but I need to move this one up to the top because it’s my reading group book and we meet next Tuesday. Yikes. I am very excited about this one though because I read her first book a couple of years ago and thought it was a great read.
So needless to say you guys, I’m taking a couple of days off from the blog to focus on reading so I can be ready for book group. Hope you are all reading some great books and more book talk soon!
Do you find with four mysteries on the go that you get any of the plots confused or are they different enough you can keep them all straight? Have fun with the reading!
I don’t often read multiple books at once, but when I do I try to mix up the genres so as not to get confused. Sometimes though, especially when deadlines are approaching, I have to break my own “rule”.
I hope you get your book read for your book club next week! I’m hoping to finish my current book group read done today or tomorrow. Hopefully today. I’m dying to know what is going to happen.
I’m impressed you can keep all those mysteries separate in your mind!
I used not to read more than one mystery at a time, but I must admit that I have been bad of late. I am also listening to a mystery on audio book (which is really good I must say), plus I have my Soho Crime subscription book, an Agatha Christie started and my Vintage mystery–a Josephine Tey…..not quite sure how all that happened! I agree though when it comes to audio books–it’s hard to find one that you can listen to and enjoy and not worry about missing details! I want to read the Strange Fate of Kittie Easton, too, by the way! 🙂
I can always count on you to recommend a good mystery!
I love reading crime thrillers and mysteries! Hmm… I don’t think I’ve read more than two books of the same genre at the same time, at least not in thrillers. I’m currently reading S.J. Bolton’s “Dead Scared” and it’s so good! Have you read anything by her?
I’m impressed that you can read multiple mysteries at once. I’m pretty sure I’ll guess the right murderer in the wrong book, ha! Enjoy your books!
I can only handle on really good read at a time, I can’t do more than devote all my energy to one at a time. Like for instance right now readin Shadows of Doubt by Mell Corcoran, I had another read started at the time. Needless to say Corcorans book is so good that I don’t want to “cheat” on it! I recommend it, mellcorcoran.com for it’s info! Our club is also reading it so that makes it easier!
