I know I promised you a post on my recent purchases but you’ve got to see what I’ve been working on for the last two days… my bookshelves! I have five Billy bookcases, the one in the middle of these is narrower and holds all my craft books/magazines and special books I’ve made.
These other four though are double-stacked and stuffed and I still had books on the floor. I’m sure many of you have the same problem. The thing is, it really was starting to get out of control so I pulled every book off, shelf by shelf and went through and weeded out books that I was no longer interested in and books in bad shape.
I don’t know if you can see some of the blue sticky notes on some of the shelves. This was my guide as to which books went where. I don’t alphabetize by author but I do groups. For example one shelf has all the authors last names from A-C.
There are sections on my shelves devoted to Classics, Poetry, Books in Spanish, Fiction, Mystery/Thrillers, and advance review copies. I also have some groups of books like all the Persephones in one stack and all the Europa editions in another. You get the idea right?
I have no more books on the floor and of course I do have a bit of space where I could fit in some newcomers. Haha.. As far as the books I’ve decided to part with I’m planning to donate some to the Little Free Libraries in my neighborhood, the library, and maybe even take a few to Half Price Books. Tomorrow I’m off on another bookish adventure so I’ll tell you about that next time.
I love looking at other readers’ bookshelves and that’s a common problem we all have, isn’t it? 😉 I haven’t cleared mine foe a long while! And I definitely need more shelf space but looks like my latest book hauls will have to remain at a corner for some time, hehe.
I have four bags of books to donate (or drag up to Seattle to the Half Price Books the next time we’re up there). My shelves are not nearly as full as they used to be and I’m feeling pretty good about reading my own books and staying out of the library. Of course, I keep buying books to give to my mom for her birthday, Christmas and Mother’s Day, so once she’s finished, she passes them along to me. 🙂
I’ve been going through books to donate and sell as well, hoping to just hang on to those what have meaning for me or ones I have yet to read and still want to read. I’m thinking about building my own Little Free Library (if it is allowed in my neighborhood) and just stocking it from my own collection for a while.
Wow, what a project! I weeded my collection WAY too much when we moved and am regretting some of it now. But all of my favorites are here on my new shelves.. Today I discovered a Little Free Library here on the island – made my day!!
Oh book weeding. That is an ongoing project at my house. I used to dread doing it, but these days it’s kind of fun and feels freeing in a way.
Big box of books awaiting donation. Still have books on the floor,; most of my reading for the last several years has been digital…so I can’t account for the excess of books!
Sheesh, I had no idea they were called “Billy Bookcases”. Learned something new today. It will be so much fun arranging all these books! 🤩
What fun: being able to finally fit everything into the space that you have. And being able to pass along the books that you aren’t loving right now, so that someone else might love them instead!
