I had a pre-planned post for today but my mind has been on other things. I’ve been watching the news and it’s hard to watch so much injustice but I’m ever hopeful that if we all do something however small, it will help us move forward. So support, stay informed and stay safe.
For now I leave you with a favorite Langston Hughes poem, I, Too

Challenging times. The problems are so endemic, so deeply embedded. I’m hoping for change and a better justice system that starts at the bottom in so many areas. One problem that needs concentrated attention is police immunity from prosecution. Another is economic equity. The Hughes poem still speaks to problems that continue to exist.
That is a wonderful, and wonderfully apt, poem. One of the things that is an issue today is that the collective “we” aren’t ashamed, or aren’t ashamed enough, not just about this but about a lot of things. That has to change.
I appreciate this post and this poem, in particular, Iliana. I’ve been struggling with what to blog about, too. I plan to post my monthly summary tomorrow, but the introductory paragraph will not be the usual chit-chat. We must do better in the country and in this world. My heart is so heavy these days. I pray we make it to November and can make some real changes. Be well and be safe.
Jen Mullen – Completely agree! I’ve been on several art forums and am do disappointed at how many people just don’t get it. Like this was a tragic but isolated incident.
Carl V. Anderson – First I just want to say it’s so good to see you posting again! Yes, I agree, I think this is something that should make us want to take a look at ourselves so that we can make changes.
Les in OR – I’m right there with you. We have got to see some change and if we can’t make this happen with our votes in November then I just don’t know what.
It is good to be touring around the blog world again. It is nice to see the people who are still around and it also makes me sad when I cannot find someone I used to spend a lot of time talking to on a blog.
I LOVE this poem! So glad you posted it. 🙂
