So in my last post I mentioned barley starting my Christmas shopping and I can tell you I’m still way behind. Although, I did buy a book for myself, The Secret Place by Tana French. Unfortunately the holiday spirit hasn’t really hit me as I’ve just been so busy at work that when I come home I’m drained. I’m definitely ready to take a few days off during the holidays and relax.
I did however recently finish An English Murder by Cyril Hare which is a mystery set during Christmastime. I read this one for my book group which met earlier this week and we all rated it a good, cozy mystery. I think my only nitpick with this book was that the murder took a while to happen. If it’s a mystery, I want a body soon. Ha.
Anyway, things should be relatively quiet here at Casa Bookgirl for the holidays but I’m looking forward to reading, writing in my journal, working on crafty projects and hopefully if the weather is nice going out for some walks in the Wildflower Center near our home.
I’m also going to be working on my year-end reading wrap up to post here. I can already tell you that I didn’t complete a single one of my reading challenges. Bummer. But, there is always next year and even if I didn’t complete them it was fun reading books with the challenges in mind.
So how are things going for you? Hope you are finding comfort in books amidst all the Holiday activity. Have a wonderful weekend and more book talk soon!
I really enjoyed The Secret Place – so beautifully written, with lots of twists in the mystery. I’ve finally got some time to prepare for the holidays and actually did some wrapping already! A first for me.
I agree with Belle, The Secret Place was wonderful. I don’t think it was as good as some of her other books, but it is still fabulous and better than just about anything else out there. I wish you a peaceful time off so you can decompress and read a little!
I hope you enjoy reading The Secret Place! I can’t wait to hear what you think of it after reading it. 🙂
Hope you’ve a wonderful Christmas holidays with your family!
I have felt behind in everything since Thanksgiving and there isn’t all that much I have to do so can totally sympathize. I hope peace and calm arrives for you soon. Have a merry Christmas!
