We’ve had some sunny days this weekend and I wanted to take advantage of the sun and milder temperatures to enjoy a walk outdoors so I thought why not take an audiobook with me. But first, I need an audiobook and in my search to see what my library had available (as my audiobook collection is super limited) I discovered OverDrive.
Am I the last person to discover this? I downloaded the app to my iPhone and voila I can easily “check out†an audiobook and it’s ready to listen immediately. Super easy! As you can see I borrowed Deeper Than The Dead by Tami Hoag.
I still have a bit of a hard time staying focused while listening to an audiobook but I’ve found that thrillers and more cozy type mysteries seem to work well for me. So with my audiobook ready I went for a 40 minute walk around my neighborhood. That was so nice.
I know some of you love to listen to audiobooks so do you have a preference for what type of audiobooks you listen to or anything goes?
Alright, and short post tonight because I am meeting with my book group on tomorrow and I still haven’t finished my book.
Hasn’t this sunny and warmer weather been wonderful, Iliana? Although I do have the cedar allergies and walking outside right now is risky – beautiful, but I pay for it later. I do listen to audiobooks all the time now. And non-fiction even works for me sometimes. I read DEEPER THAN THE DEAD and the other two that follow with the same characters this last year. Enjoyed them and the 1980’s setting.
The weather out my way has been pleasant too. I began listening to an audiobook while out driving this morning. I had to go to an office across town and figured I might as well use the commute wisely. I don’t often listen to audiobooks. It takes me forever to get through them as my listening time is so limited. Plus, I have such a hard time staying focused. Like you, I find that thrillers and cozies are often the best options for me. Conversational memoirs like Bossypants work for me as well. I can’t do other kinds of nonfiction though. And longer books have proven to be a bad idea. Right now I am listening to Rainbow Rowell’s Eleanor and Park. We’ll see how that goes . . .
I started listening to audiobooks aggressively when I became a mom. With a full time job and two kids it was kinda hard to read an actual book when the kids are screaming for your attention. Last year I managed to listen to about 15 books. I listen to anything and everything as long as they received good reviews. I’ve also started my four year old on audiobooks and the experience has been awesome so far.
I started listening to fiction on audiobook and they didn’t work for me at all, because I like to focus on the writing in fiction and audiobooks did not help me with that. But then I switched to nonfiction and that worked like a charm. So I mostly listen to nonfiction on audio, and occasionally to some fiction, as long as they are not literary fiction. Hope you have a lot of success with audiobooks!
I have only tried to listen to a few audio books, but perhaps it is time to give them another try. Thanks for the link!
I was just thinking about finding an audiobook for me to listen to while I workout. I have one on the go while I’m at work but I think that it would really help make my treadmill time more tolerable if I was listening to a book. I enjoy Tami Hoag’s books so I’m looking forward to hearing what you think of this one.
I wish I could listen to audio books but I just lose concentration too easily.
