I’m excited about this month as I really want to make up for our last Christmas, which if you’ll recall was spent in the hospital. Fingers crossed that this will be a much more enjoyable holiday. The month did start with us feeling a bit under the weather as we got our COVID-19 boosters. It totally knocked me down for a day. Felt very achy, chills, and super tired but in a way I think it probably was good to hang out in bed and get some rest. Very glad we got those done.
I’ve been trying to get Casa Bookgirl in the Christmas spirit by putting up our mini tree (where are the hooks for the ornaments?!) and planning our Christmas menu. I’ll be honest I’m stuck at chocolate croissants and other baked goods. Haha. I still have some shopping to do but we’re keeping things simple here as again it will just be my husband, my mom and me. I really hope in 2023 we’ll be able to see our families.
On the reading front I do have several books in progress which I’ll tell you more about later but one book I wanted to mention is A Nature Poem for Every Night of the Year, edited by Jane McMoreland Hunter. I haven’t quite kept up with a poem a day with this book so I’m a couple of weeks behind but I do plan to finish it by the end of the year. I’ve loved this book so much and if you enjoy poetry, or would like to get in to poetry a bit more, I think this would be well worth your time.
Have a wonderful week ahead and more book talk soon. In the meantime, I leave with you with this poem I read a couple of weeks ago that reminds us of the beauty around us.
Alone in the night
On a dark hill
With pines around me
Spicy and still,
And a heaven full of stars
Over my head
White and topaz
And misty red;
Myriads with beating
Hearts of fire
The aeons
Cannot vex or tire;
Up the dome of heaven
Like a great hill
I watch them marching
Stately and still.
And I know that I
Am honored to be
Witness
Of so much majesty.
Stars by Sara Teasdale.
Great poem! And I got knocked out by my covid booster shot for about a day, too. AT least you know it’s working. ;D Happy December!
Lovely poem! I’ll be getting my COVID booster in a couple weeks and given how I felt after all the others ones, plan to be knocked down for a day too. I laughed that you are stuck at chocolate croissants and baked goods for your menu planning. I’ve got my Solstice menu finalized and of course the first thing I decided on was the dessert 🙂
I hope you have a happy December and a wonderful holiday season, Iliana. I am still waiting for the Christmas spirit to strike, but hopefully it won’t be much longer. I at least am going through the motions. I like the sound of A Nature Poem for Every Night of the Year and will have to add it to my Christmas list. That’s a lovely poem you shared.
I can’t believe it’s December! Where did the time go? I’m not ready for Christmas and absolutely not ready for the year to end.
Hate the side effects of covid-19 boosters but mine was not as bad as the first two shots.
Hope you’ve a great week and happy reading! ðŸ˜Å
I’m sorry that you had a reaction to your COVID booster. I did with my first two shots (fever, chills, headache, etc.), but my boosters have all been ok. Just got mine a couple of days ago and was prepared to lay low, but wound up feeling fine. Rod got his today, but he’s never had a reaction to any of them.
We’re having a small cocktail party here next weekend, and we’ve invited some friends over for Christmas Eve dinner, so I’ve been busy with meal planning and grocery shopping. It will be fun, but it’s a bit daunting for someone who rarely entertains anymore!
Lovely poem! Thanks for sharing it with us. Enjoy this season!
