I meant to put up this post sooner but I had family visiting me these last few days. Anyway, it’s time to do another monthly wrap up. I had a pretty good reading month in July and finished five books.
Books finished in July were The Ghost Fields by Elly Griffiths, Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King, Shortcomings by Adrian Tomine, Hugo & Rose by Bridget Foley and The Year My Mother Came Back by Alice Eve Cohen.
There was a mix of graphic novel, mystery, fiction and non-fiction. Now, I’m carrying over two books from July into August but more on those later.
I’ve also thought about where I stand on my reading challenges and I was surprised to realize I have finished the What’s In A Name Challenge. I haven’t kept up with doing my reviews but I have read six books that satisfy the requirements. Yay me!
As far as my other five challenges go, well let’s just say I’m stuck at one or two books max, but that’s ok. We’ll see what the next few months bring.
How about you, how is your reading going this year?
Making some progress. Got Girl on Train from my library. No one had a hold on it! The two narrators have the same voice 🙁 But the story is interesting so far.
I hope you had a nice visit with your family! Sounds like you had a good reading month, Iliana. Congratulations on finishing the What’s In a Name Challenge. I didn’t participate in that one this year, but I’m tempted to go back and see if I’ve read books that meet the requirements. 🙂
The Year My Mother Came Back still sits in the pile of books, awaiting renewed interest. I’ve read obsessively this year with mixed results in quality. 🙂 I have recently been re-reading poetry at odd ends of the spectrum: John Donne and Wilfred Owen. Two old favorites that make me crave more.
Summer has slowed my reading down considerably but fall is just around the corner!
I so need to read Shortcomings! It’s been on my list for a long time. Did you like it?
That sounds like a great mix of reading so far. I haven’t tried the Elly Griffiths’ mysteries, but I think I’ll like them. And there is a gap, so far, in my summer reading, where a Stephen King book should be (I read Joyride last summer – so fun). But there are still three weeks left in August! Hope you find some good ones in that time too!
I like reading a variety–I am trying to do that more, but somehow it all ends up being fiction and mostly mysteries. Last month was not a good reading month for me, but oh well. Maybe this month. I think I set my mental goals a little too high and then am always disappointed! I wish I could get into a habit of just two or three books, but …. Will you be going on vacation soon? You always get in lots of reading when you go away it seems!
