Growing up and even through my 20s, Christmas and New Years were always a big to do. We’d drive to Monterrey, Mexico to spend the time with our family. Big dinners, presents, games and just a lot of fun visiting with family and friends.
As the years have gone by the holidays for me have become more about quiet time. Sometimes family comes to visit but it looks like this year will be another quiet affair at Casa Bookgirl. So, I’ll be ready to celebrate the holidays by chilling out and enjoying books, coffee and crafty pursuits.
Of course I also plan to spend some time putting together one of my favorite posts of the year – book favorites & reading stats. Can’t wait to read yours and actually just catch up on what you’ve been reading lately. I am so behind.
May you and your loved ones spend a beautiful holiday season.
Hugs,
iliana
Our Christmas celebrations sound similar. We used to have big family gatherings when we all lived in San Diego. Now we’re all scattered and with the loss of family members (several years ago and more recently last month), Christmas just isn’t quite the same as it used to be. We’ll have a quiet one this year, staying home and celebrating with my mom. If the weather cooperates, we’ll go for a walk and work on a puzzle. Like you, I’ll start putting together my year-end reading stats. Looking forward to reading yours. Hugs to you, too, Iliana. xoxo
Yes, I need to put up my favourite books list, too. I’ve been too caught up with things at home and vacation that it almost slip off of my mind. I hope you’ve a wonderful holiday season and I’m looking forward to reading your favourite books list, Iliana.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas and New Year, Iliana! Yes, time passes and things change with families. Our Christmas last year was very quiet as my husband recovered from his heart surgery. This year, we will be hosting a few, though our daughter will be working on Christmas. Babies do come on holidays, don’t they? We’re also hosting a separate family gift exchange that more will be able to attend. I’m having fun with that and telling everyone that it will be total goodies. We’re going to have a popcorn bar and play games. My mother-in-law told me that it wasn’t as much fun now that all her grandchildren are grown – presents not as fun to shop for, etc. And there are now little ones yet or maybe ever – who knows? There are 4 dogs that substitute. I’m getting puppy treats for them. However, I agree – puppy treats not as fun to shop for as little dolls and trucks. Ha! Take care. We really will have to get together in 2019 for a coffee and visit. Let’s make a point of that.
Can’t wait to read your favorites post. Until then…have a wonderful Christmas holiday! 😀
Wishing you a Merry Christmas Iliana; hope it’s special.
I wish you and yours a peaceful day.
I will try to read something hopeful-no dystopian novels for me on Christmas 🎄
I hope you enjoyed your holiday! It’s nice to have quiet time sometimes. With so many sides of the family to visit, sometimes our holidays seem like just a lot of running around!
Sometimes a quiet Christmas is what we need. This time of year can be very hectic. It was for me this year.
I hope you are enjoying your quiet holidays! I very much like quiet this time of year. There is something about the days between Solstice and New Years that makes me contemplative. Plus, reading books and drinking coffee with cats fighting over my lap is the best. All the best to you and yours!
Most of my family lives nearby, so I haven’t had to travel much for Christmases, but we do similar things — food, games, family, all of that. Our Christmas as a little more quiet than usual, but fun anyway. I hope you had a relaxing holiday!
I forgot to say, I loved Sheltered, so good. The author is from the area where I grew up.
