I’ve been lucky enough to get a few new ARCs lately and wanted to share those titles with you.
The first one is Starfinder by John Marco. This is a first in the series of the Skylords. You know I don’t read that much fantasy but I liked the synopsis for this one. You can read more about the book here.
I also received The Black Girl Next Door by Jennifer Baszile. Here is a review of the memoir from a recent edition in the New York Times.
The next book on the stack is Germania by Brendan McNally. From the description: In their youth, Manni and Franzi, together with their brothers, Ziggy and Sebastian, captured Germany’s collective imagination as the Flying Magical Loerber Brothers — one of the most popular vaudeville acts of the old Weimar days.
And the latest book I’ve received is People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks. I like that not only can you download a reader’s guide to the book but also a map. I love maps in books. I read her book Year of Wonders several years ago and loved it so I hope I’ll enjoy this book just as much.
Anyway, that’s my new stash of books. Hope you’ve got some new books waiting for you this weekend. I’m off to finish up Sexing the Cherry. Have a wonderful weekend!
Sounds like a good stack. Let us know how they are.
Have a good weekend!
Enjoy your new books, Iliana! People of the Book is one I’m particularly interested in.
People of the Book is fantastic! I read it last year and it made my top ten. I hope you love it too!
I’ve had my eye on People of the Book, too.
You have a great stack!
aka Nik – I don’t know which one to start with first! 🙂 You have a great one too!
Nymeth – I remember when it first came out I was a bit meh on it but then I heard a radio interview with the author and it really sold it for me. Can’t wait to read it.
Heather – Yay… Glad to hear that!
Anna – I’ll keep you guys posted 🙂
Vasilly – I love new book stacks 🙂
looks like a good stack of reading to me!
I liked People of the Book but I preferred her other books more.
I really liked the Geraldine Brooks novel! I’ve not heard of the rest of your ARE’s! There are so many new books out there I can never keep up. The Mcnally looks especially good!
I have People of the Book but haven’t read it, yet. I’m looking forward to it.
I really want to hear how you like the Geraldine Brooks novel! I enjoyed Year of Wonders, too 🙂
I was so pleased to find People of the Book in paperback earlier this month and so scooped up a copy. I plan to read Starfinder too. It sounds like a good one. Enjoy your new books, Iliana!
enjoy all those good books :o)
People of the Book is excellent. The map will come in very handy for you.
How nice to get the Geraldine Brooks book! I’d like to read that one; it sounds interesting.
Serena – Indeed! 🙂
Marg – Have you read March? I know that’s the one she won a prize for but oddly enough that one didn’t sound too interesting to me. I may have to check it out too though.
Danielle – I know, new books just keep on coming don’t they? 🙂
Lisa – I don’t know when I’ll get to it either… we’ll have to compare notes 🙂
Gentle Reader – Wasn’t Year of Wonders great? The ending was a bit meh for me but still loved it.
Literary Feline – I think Starfinder will be a fun book! Can’t wait to get to all of the 🙂
bookworm – I will 🙂
Kristy – Ooh, good to hear that. I love maps in books. They just add something to the story.
Dorothy W. – I was pretty excited about that one!
I’ve had a copy of Year of Wonders for ages that I really should read sometime. Enjoy your new books!
I haven’t really read many fantasy books or even science fiction. I have Ursula Le Guin on my list of books to read – maybe one day..
You have listed some books here that I am not at all familiar with so I am looking forward to following the links to read more about them…
tanabata – Oh Year of Wonders was one of my favorite book club reads. So interesting so hope you’ll pick it up!
christine – I’ve been wanting to read LeGuin after I heard her on NPR one day. She sounds fascinating. but, yea, I’m not very big on fantasy either. I think it’s just that I’m not used to it.
Starfinder is one of those books that everyone seems to be getting but meeeee. Whine, fuss. Okay, not that I need more ARCs. 🙂
