Aside from the graphic novels by Marjane Satrapi, Fun Home and Ghost World, my knowledge of graphic novels is quite limited. So when I saw Dewey’s Graphic Novel challenge I knew I wanted to join but where to start?
Luckily Dewey had links to some good resources and Dark Orpheus sent me a fabulous list of suggestions. This Bookgirl didn’t feel so lost anymore!
Today I spent some time at the library looking through the shelves of graphic novels and I have come up with my list (yes, I’m including one from another challenge and yes, I may switch some titles out as I go). Here are the six challenge books I hope to read next year:
- One Hundred Demons by Lynda Barry
- Blankets by Craig Thompson
- The Book of Magic by Neil Gaiman
- Strangers in Paradise by Terry moore
- Maus by Art Spiegelman
- Watchmen by Alan Moore
I’m so excited about this challenge. Also if anyone is thinking of this challenge but needs a little help with the genre, I recommend Graphic Novels: Stories to Change your Life by Paul Gravett. I checked out this book and it’s also been a great resource.
Don’t forget to check out my favorite — Joann Sfar!! His artwork is amazing and the stories are both wise and whimsical.
My husband, the graphic novel expert in my house, gives a thumbs up to all your choices. 🙂 I have read Maus and thought it was very well done. I hope you will enjoy your choices!
You are loading upon the challenges! It looks like such a fun challenge and I am so tempted, but I know it will end up being too much. So I will just enjoy everyone else’s posts 🙂
So glad you are joining in. There are many, many fantastic graphic novels out there. I’ll be participating in this one as well and really look forward to it!
Hi, just to let you know I’ve been reading your blog on and off for a while, and now I’ve finally gotten around to making a bookblog I’ve added you to my blogroll. Even though I really hate that word…
These are great choices, Iliana. And watch out for “The Watchmen” movie coming next year.
Wishing you happy readings.
Susan – Ooh thank you! I’ll check to see if my library carries one of his novels. I have a feeling my TBR list will grow a lot with this challenge!
Literary Feline – Yay 🙂 I think I’m in for a good time too.
Stefanie – I’m insane! ha,ha… And, I have a bunch of other challenges I’m planning to join. Ah well. it’s just so fun.
Carl V. – I can’t wait to see what’s on your list. I think this will be a lot of fun.
Katie – Thank you for stopping by! I will have to visit your blog and “meet” you 🙂
Dark Orpheus – Oh I didn’t know that! Good to know. And, really, thank you so much for suggestions. I was so clueless 🙂
Books of Magic is wonderful! I haven’t read the other books on your list, but they sound great too, especially Maus and Blankets. I look forward to your reviews!
Nymeth – Was that one on your list? I know I looked at your suggestions as well. Yay. I’m looking forward to all of these.
