I hope you all had a great weekend. We got to hang out with some friends who will soon be moving to Sweden. Being that it’s so hot here, I’m thinking I wouldn’t mind going to Sweden right now! We are sure going to miss them but who knows, maybe next year we’ll get to visit them.
Anyway, we did make a quick visit to the bookstore on Friday and I mainly looked into the new magazines. I was so bummed out to find out that More magazine is no more. Their last issue was April I believe. And, RT Book Reviews is done with print copies.
RT Book Reviews is such a great source for romance, YA, mysteries, etc. I have read the magazine on and off for years. They are now launching into digital only content and while I do have an account I have to tell you, I much prefer an actual magazine. I have a couple of other magazines I read via Zinio but I can’t quite make the switch to digital.
I did find a new magazine though and that was Misadventures. A magazine about the outdoors and adventures for women. I liked that it had a little bit about everything, from solo travel to yoga and hiking and other adventures. They also had a neat Summer Reading List tapas style, meaning all selected pieces were 250 pages or less. Good recommendations on essays, poetry, inspiration and of course fiction.
The other latest issue that is out and is one of my favorites to read when I’m feeling overwhelmed is Bella Grace magazine. There are a lot of personal essays on just celebrating the everyday moments. Every time I read this magazine I just sigh. It helps me calm down. If you haven’t read this one, check it out and let me know what you think.
So I’ll leave you with a quote from the Bella Grace blog which I think will be great to start the week with:
“Good morning, this is a beautiful day. And I have never seen this one before.†~ Maya Angelou
Misadventures is SOOO up my alley, and can’t wait to read Bella Grace. Thanks for the recs!
I love browsing magazines in the bookstore. If I were you, I would go visit your friends in Sweden as soon as possible! What a cool place to move…
I like the sound of Misadventures! Will have to look for it! Perhaps your friends need help moving to Sweden? 😉
I would love to visit Sweden someday. That would be fun if you could go. I’m sure your friends would like seeing familiar faces. I have been terrible about reading magazines this past year. I’m letting many of my subscriptions go. I have never tried RT Book Reviews, but I’ve heard good things about it. I hope you have a great week, Iliana!
I think the computer ate my comment. Let’s try this again. It has been unpleasantly hot out lately, hasn’t it? Ugh. I think it would be great if you were ale to visit your friends in Sweden next year. They’d probably enjoy seeing familiar faces. 🙂
I have been letting my magazine subscriptions die out recently. I just haven’t been reading them and end up donating them without interest in catching up later. RT Book Reviews is one I’ve heard good things about though.
It’s so hard when good friends leave!! I hope you get to meet them soon! I wish I read magazines but I am always behind. I had the EW subscription all year and barely read it.
Andi – With all the running you’ve been doing, I think you’ll enjoy Misadventures!
Lisa Sumner – I do want to go visit them. Sweden looks so wonderful so hopefully we can plan on that.
Stefanie – I feel like I saw an article on what to pack when on a bike trip or something like that. Might come in handy for some of your bike races 🙂
Literary Feline – I do hope we get to visit them. Plus he is from Sweden so it would be great to have a travel guide 🙂 I can’t keep up with a lot of magazines either and have very few subscriptions.
Athira – It is, isn’t it? We’re really going to miss them as this was a couple who lived near us. Well, my passport is ready 🙂
