In reading my post from yesterday, I realize I make it sound like new books haven’t entered my house in like, forever, but I forgot to mention that I did a bit of book shopping and book mooching over the holidays while I was on my blog break. So let me tell you which new books have been added to the piles of unread books.
Below are the books I traded for at a little bookstore I go to every so often. It’s sort of like a Half Price bookstore but you can bring in books to trade and you get credit for them. They mainly have genre fiction but that works for me when I’m looking for a good mystery.
- Invitation to a Funeral by Molly Young Brown
- Goodnight, Irene by Jan Burke
- The Hanover Square Affair by Ashley Gardner
- The Rosary Girls by Richard Montanari
And, the books from BookMooch are:
- The Stone Angel by Margaret Laurence. This one is for the next Slaves discussion!
- Alentejo Blue by Monica Ali
- The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier
- In Cold Blood by Truman Capote (should arrive soon)
I think instead of books I should purchase some new bookshelves but books are just much more fun.

I apparently read The Stone Angel in school but have forgotten most of it. I should reread it again someday. Enjoy your new-to-you books.
I do hope you enjoy The Rosary Girls! I just finished reading The Skin Gods by the same author (my second book by him–the first being the one you list above). I enjoy his books quite a bit. Goodnight, Irene is one of my challenge books this year. I’m really looking forward to finally reading something by Jan Burke. Happy Reading!
That sounds like a good bargain! Enjoy your new books! 🙂
Books surely are more fun as compared to bookshelves, but we need the latter as well if our pile keeps on getting higher and higher, hehehe…
Hope you will have a great weekend.
I always ‘forget’ my book purchases as well, though in my case it’s usually more to do with the fact that I don’t want to admit to the amount of money I’ve spent that had been ear-marked for other purposes. My bank-manager hates me.
The Stone Angel was my husband’s most hated school book, but that doesn’t surprise me. I haven’t read it. I hear it’s been made into a movie with Ellen Page coming out this year.
Tanabata – I had never heard of it until it came up as a nomination for the Slaves discussion. I’m looking forward to it.
Literary Feline – Oh good to know! And, I know I’ve been meaning to read a Jan Burke book ever since I got hooked on the show “Bones”. I may have to switch this one out with another of my first challenge books 🙂
Melody – Aren’t book bargains the best! I wish I had a “real” library and maybe then I’d have enough shelf space. Enjoy your weekend too!
Ann Darnton – Hee,hee… I know what you mean. I want to keep track of books bought this year but I don’t want to know how much I spent. That’s a scary thought 🙂
Chrisbookarama – Oh no! I’m going to have to see if there’s already a preview somewhere for the movie. In that case, I’m excited about reading the book first 🙂
They all sound yummy. I especially love Ali Smith and Truman Capote. And I’m really looking forward to reading The Chocolate War. It’s a staple in adolescent lit, and I’ve never read it!
I know what you mean about needing more shelf space. My husband is going to build me some new bookshelves in the near future (hopefully!), but for now the piles contineu to teeter all over the house. I don’t read a lot of non-fiction, but In Cold Blood is an excellent book. Since reading it, I have read a couple other things by Capote. I highly recommend the movie, Capote, as well.
I’m looking forward to The Stone Angel! I bought a second hand copy here in the UK and am waiting to get around to it. Lovely pile of books, iliana!
I love Jan Burke’s books and The Chocolate War is a top-notch YA novel. In Cold Blood…very scary, but of course, beautifully written! Good croppa’ books!
Andi – I had no idea what The Chocolate War was about until I got the book. It sounds really good. So glad you chose that one for the challenge! Oh and thanks for letting me know about the Joe Hill book – I’m going to check that out.
Lisa – I did see Capote – wasn’t it such a great film? I couldn’t believe how much I thought about it afterwards. In Cold Blood is one of those books I have been putting for a long time!
Litlove – Glad you got your copy. Doesn’t it sound good? I just hope I can read it in time for the Slaves discussion. Unfortunately my track record isn’t all that great 🙂
Jenclair – Yay, so glad to hear you enjoyed both of those. I’m sure they will be fun.
I enjoyed In Cold Blood when I read it last year. I gave it an A-. My review is here, if you’re interested:

Some day I hope to read Capote. It’s just so darned big! 😉
Les in NE – Oh thank you! I’ll check it out definitely.
I always seem to be in the minority when it comes to The Chocolate War. I read it in my children’s lit class for my MLS, and I seriously hated that book (and I have very few books that make that category). I hope you like it better than I did!
