I hope you all enjoyed your New Year celebrations. We heard fireworks go off around our neighborhood and that was enough for me. I did welcome the year with a new book and though and it’s Despues del Invierno by Guadalupe Nettel.
I’ve had this book on my shelf for a couple of years and after thinking  a lot lately about how I want to read more books by Latin American authors, I thought let’s go for it.
This story is about Claudio and Cecilia. They live in different countries but of course their lives are going to intersect in Paris and they’ll fall in love. Sounds a bit like a romcom right? Nettel has won various literary prizes so I believe I’ll be in for a good read.
You can also find an English version of the book.
I’m also still carrying over several books from 2019 and don’t even get me started the number of books I finished and never got around to reviewing.
Next couple of posts I plan to tell you more about the reading challenges I’ll be joining and the new books I’ve added to my shelves.
For now, wishing you all a happy start to 2020!
Good idea to choose your first read to reflect a goal you have set. Hope you enjoy it!
I am sure we drove our neighbors crazy with our traditional banging of the pots and pans. My daughter insists. Why I ever introduced her to that tradition, I’ll never know. LOL There were quite a few fireworks going off in our area too. I hope you enjoy Despues del Invierno, Iliana. I look forward to seeing all that you read this year. Happy New Year!
I’ll have to check out the English version of this book. Sounds interesting. Happy New Year, Iliana!
Oh, yeah! The books finished and not reviewed! I literally forget about some of them, but then, not all books are especially memorable for all that they are not bad reads. I still have a number that I do want to review and several scheduled, but there are so many other things to get done during the first of the year. I’m considering a couple of self-challenges, but love to hear about other challenges because they interest me as well–even when I don’t join. 🙂
My goal for one day is to be able to read a book in a language other than English. I have not been able to make it happen but seeing a post like this bumps that goal of mine to the forefront. 🙂 Love the sound of this book – (yeah I checked out the English version).
Joann @ Gulfside Musing – I’m hoping that helps me stick with my personal goal! We’ll see how it goes.
Literary Feline – Haha… Too funny. I hope you have a great reading year ahead!
Melody – I like that it’s a romance but hopefully a bit more serious and with more depth. I don’t mind fluffy romance novels too but I hope this will be a good one.
Jen Mullen – I’m so behind and I think I need to borrow Lark’s idea of haiku reviews! 🙂 Can’t wait to hear what challenges you are going to join in!
Athira – Oh yay! I think that’s a wonderful goal and i’m sure you can do it.
Happy New Year and enjoy your first book of 2020!
