Well, my first day as a woman of leisure was anything but leisure. I got up early and went to the gym and after that it was pretty much a day spent running around. My mom and I visited some family friends and then ran errands. I expect that the next few days will be much of the same as we are taking a short trip to Monterrey and we need to get ready for it. The trip should be fun but at the same time I will be anxious to get back to start my projects.
I did manage to get some reading done today, mainly catching up on my magazines, and I finished The Dirty Duck by Martha Grimes. I really like the Richard Jury series and look forward to reading more. The Dirty Duck is the fourth one and I believe she’s up to 20 books now. Lots of crime-solving ahead.
Tonight I’m starting a new book, The Spanish Bow by Andromeda Romano-Lax. First sentence, “I was almost born happy.” Sounds intriguing doesn’t it? Of course I’ll let you know how it goes.
Good luck with getting everything done before your trip and I hope you have a nice trip to Moterrey….short but sweet.
Look forward to hearing about your new projects and all the books you are reading upon your return!
Love the Richard Jury series! I’ve never read The Dirty Duck, but have read everything our library has in the series.
Hope you like The Spanish Bow!
I’ve got The Spanish Bow sitting here in a pile of ARCs. I’ll look forward to hearing what you think of it. The first sentence is definitely a grabber!
How quickly you’ve taken to this life…LOL!! I’m glad you’ve having fun and keeping busy too. Monterrey sounds like a great getaway. Have a good weekend!
Christine – Thanks girl! It was a lot more running around today but I think we are almost ready 🙂
jenclair – I loved the way this one started. It really grabbed my attention. Unfortunately there was one little thing that kind of got on my nerves but I still enjoyed it. I’m definitely looking forward to the next one.
Nancy, aka Bookfool – I only got a few pages into the novel yesterday but so far so good 🙂
Kisane – Ha,ha. I know right. I will have to do some book shopping in Monterrey and report back. You have a great one too!
It’s funny when you all of a sudden have lots of free time you think you will get to do all the things you want to do but don’t have the time, but it is never as easy as it sounds! Have a nice time with your family in Monterray!
Monterey sounds like a great place to vacation. Hope you have a wonderful time.
It’s hard to relax into situations like this, but it’s so rare to have the time off–I try to enjoy it! But it sounds like you’re off to a great start, with reading and a trip to Monterrey planned 🙂
I loved The Spanish Bow! Wonderful book. I had the opportunity to meet the author at a book signing event last week which made it that much more interesting. Hope you enjoy it!
Danielle – Indeed! I’m working on setting up a schedule. As soon as I go and return from Monterrey I’m going to get in order! heh.
Booklogged – Thank you. I’ll be there briefly to see my family so I probably won’t get to do much but it’ll still be nice.
Gentle Reader – Yes, a lot of the time you can be thinking of what next and forget to live the moment right. I’ve given myself a certain time off that includes no looking for a job. Hopefully that will allow me to enjoy the other projects until I have to go back to work.
Ex Libris – Oh lucky you! I’m half way through the book and it’s so fun.
I’m late commenting here on the new-found freedom! My husband was laid off back in June and we have had just the nicest time ever since. I call our house ‘slacker’s paradise’ as only my son is working productively in school! Here’s to many more pleasure-filled days and a return to work when the right moment comes.
Have fun on your trip. Won’t it be fun to cross things off your list?
Litlove – Slacker’s Paradise, has a nice ring to it 🙂 Glad you guys are enjoying the time off as well.
Nancy – Thanks! I am anxious to start crossing off items that’s for sure 🙂
