I’ve finally posted two book reports on books I’ve recently finished. I have a nice little stack of other books I’ve finished but I need to sift through all the post-its and put some thoughts together before I tell you about those.
Anyway, I did finish The End of the Alphabet by CS Richardson. A gem of a story. I also finished Family Secrets by Judith Henry Wall which was an advance readers’ copy. Unfortunately the book started off with a good premise but I didn’t like the ending very much. You can click on the book titles for more of my thoughts on the books.
I started The Owl Service by Alan Garner today and so far I like it, but I am in the mood for something a bit different this evening so I think I’ll choose another book for my evening read.
Oh and today I saw read this article on 20 Questions for the Well Read Book club. Very cute. I swear in one of my book clubs we had one member who always asked which book we were supposed to read. It never failed she always read the wrong book. To top it off she would then spoil that book for everyone. Sigh.
The End of the Alphabet sounds really good – I’d heard about this one but hadn’t read a review. Family Secrets sounds like the sort of book I’d read….maybe not now. Thanks for the reviews.
The Richardson book sounds good. I really need to get going on Owl Service as I tend to be pokey sometimes when reading something I need to get done by a particular date.
Glad to know End of the Alphabet is good. I am looking forward to reading it. When, I have no idea, but that doesn’t lessen the anticipation. And those book group questions are great. I think I have been in that group before.
I am impressed with your organizational skills
What the? Why was that person even in a book club? It’s not like she benefited from discussion. Why not just randomly read whatever struck her fancy?
The spoiler person of your bookclub cracks me up. Somebody needs to get her a day planner, eh? 🙂
I’m next in line on the queue for The End of Alphabet, hopefully I’ll get it soon before I leave.
Tara – End of the Alphabet is so good and it’s such a quick read. I hope you enjoy it!
Danielle – I know, I tend to put off the book group books until closer to discussion time only to find myself rushing to finish 🙂
Stefanie – Ha,ha… I used to belong to one book group where the wine discussion always seemed to be the one that was of most interest.
Isabel – Oh girl, me organized? You wouldn’t know it by the look of my desk, bookshelves, craft table, etc. 🙂
Dew – No kidding! I think she actually enjoyed spoiling the books for the rest of us… We read mysteries so she always read ahead in the series. Isn’t that evil?
Matt – Exactly! What’s worse is we actually get emails with a reminder about what book we are reading. What a character. Anyway, I hope you do get End of the Alphabet. I think you’ll enjoy it.
Now, this is a post I can use! I attended my first-ever live book-club meeting tonight, and my main question would be “Where is everybody going?”
The club meets at 5:15 p.m. on one of my days off from work. In addition, I work nights, so by 5:15 on a day when I don’t work, I am ready to settle in for hours of talk! Unfortunately, the other members are coming in after long days of work, so they lack the inclination to do this. I enjoyed the conversation, but I wish the meetings lasted longer. Perhaps I will suggest that members bring dinner and a Thermos of coffee next time.

The End of the Alphabet is one of the books I bought in Canada while I was there. I’m looking forward to reading it, just not sure when. Glad to be back reading your blog again. 🙂
