Part of the organizing that I meant to do today was to make room in the bookshelves for a few new books that I’ve received recently. Granted, I started looking at the books, looking through the TBR stacks, reminiscing about books I have read and before you know it, the day is gone and I still haven’t got quite as much done as I had hoped to do.
Oh well that’s how it goes sometimes but I am pretty excited about my new books though so let me tell you about those.
- Anatomy of A Boyfriend by Daria Snadowsky. This YA book is about Dominique’s first relationship and according to the book jacket it reveals the ecstasy and the agony of love, and everything in between. The book sounds great, I know Eva recently reviewed it as well and as if that weren’t enough, via the book’s web site you can also build your own boyfriend. Cute.
- Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict by Laurie Viera Rigler. I won this book via Naida’s recent giveaway. It is an Austen-inspired comedy, love story about a modern LA girl who wakes up as an Englishwoman in Austen’s time. This should be fun.
- Matrimony by Joshua Henkin. I was on a lucky streak because I got this via a giveaway too – at Tara’s blog. I’m so excited to read this book because I feel like I’m the last person who hasn’t done so. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this book.
- The Wasted Vigil by Nadeem Aslam. From the Publisher: The author of Maps for Lost Lovers gives us a new novel—at once lyrical and blistering—about war in our time, told through the lives of five people who come together in post-9/11 Afghanistan.
I guess tomorrow I’ll try to organize some more but I think it’s time I put aside some books to sell, donate and for BookMooch. Gotta make room for new books you know. So what new books have made it onto your shelves?

I have not added any new books to my shelf lately. Maybe I need to add some from the list above! 😉
I have Maps for Lost Lovers by Aslam, but haven’t read it yet. The new one sounds good. Glad you managed to win a copy of Matrimony. Hope you enjoy it.
mmm i love re-organizing my shelf, even if i dnt get a new book, sometimes i just clean everwhere around the shelf and put the books in order again…
mmm i guess lately i got two new books, one was in Turkish and i already finished and placed in on the shelf. The other is Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen and i m sitll reading it….
I really loved Anatomy of a Boyfriend. I hope you enjoy it too!
And I’m starting to run out of shelf space again. Pretty soon I’ll also have to go through my books and see what I really want to keep and what I could add to Bookmooch.
Nice list of new arrivals, I have Anatomy and Confessions on my wishlist. But oh how I don’t want to even think about organizing my newer books. I’m a big stickler for alphabatizing and my shelves are already packed tight. So to add in the stack of books I’ve acquired since the summer would be a week-long event of shuffling stuff around :0
Good luck on your organizing and hope you enjoy your new reads!
tee hee, you put books away like I do! 🙂
I have a number of new arrivals but no more bookshelves!
I hate it when I turn down an offer for a book and then all the reviews are good! Wish I’d taken Anatomy of a Boyfriend when I had the chance.
Confessions of a Jane Austen addict sounds like something I’d enjoy. Hope to hear good things about it!
Christine – I’m surprised! I think it’s time for another visit to the Strand 🙂
tanabata – I think I have that one too! Of course now this new one sounds so very interesting I think I’ll read it first.
iselldreams – Oh, I re-arranged my bookshelves every once in a while. Sometimes it’s the only way I’ll remember some books as I’ve got them double stacked and the ones in the back are ‘discovered’ anew 🙂
Nymeth – Yay, I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it too! I’m really looking forward to it. I go through my book space a couple of times a year. I used to never get rid of books but I’m much more relaxed about that now.
Joanne – I used to alphabetize my books but I don’t think I can keep up with that any more. Granted when we moved I was able to organize them a bit better but that’s been several months and things are starting to get a bit messy again 🙂
Stefanie -haha… That’s the only way I’ll do “housework” 🙂
Serena (Savvy Verse & Wit) – It’s fun to have so many new books isn’t it? So, do you think you’ll add another bookshelf or weed the stacks?
jenclair – That happens to me all the time too 🙂
I haven’t been buying any new books lately, Iliana, as you know I’m currently on maternity leave. ;P But I do have a great time catching up on my reading (besides spending time with my baby!) and lessening those TBR pile, hehe.
I sure miss reading your blog! I hope you’ve a great week, Iliana.
I am currently reading The Waves by Virginia Woolf and should finish it by the end of the week. It was one/three new books that I bought.\
I also received another book by John McDonald, “Tuim Tin Tassie” (empty tin cup). Doesn’t “Tassie” sound like our “tasa”? Cross pollination of Spanish and Scots?
I just finally set up a huge bookshelf in my living room (26 shelves of books covering an entire wall!). Basically, all my books had been in storage for the past four months, other than review copies. I still have a few books that are in boxes (eek!), but it was so satisfying to get all those books out again! Now I just need to alphabetize and organize them all…
I admit I am not overly interested in Matrimony- I think it’s because I’ve seen it EVERYWHERE this month. I’ve been working on winnowing out the stuff I won’t ever get to at my house, but I post to paperbackswap, not book mooch.
Well you probably won’t be the last person to read Matrimony. *raises hand* It could well be me. lol
I understand the “time sink” when you start to look through books! It’s like looking for one photo in an album, you can’t help but get distracted.
enjoy your reading, I loved Confessions of a Jane Austen addict 🙂
And Matrimony was very good too.
Nope, you’re not the last to read Matrimony. I don’t even own a copy. Yet. Looking forward to reading your review.
I started to tackle my bookshelves recently but … stopped. It was overwhelming as I have too many books and not enough shelving. Sigh. And I have lots of shelves! I’ve not heard of a few of the books on your list, so will now be keeping my eyes open for them. In the meantime, consider this exceptional novel set in post-Katrina New Orleans, “Recovering Charles,” by NYT best-selling author Jason Wright. The main character is the son of a man who’s disappeared (in N.O.) and a mom who succumbs to a prescription drug problem. He seems to have it all, but doesn’t. Then a latenight phone call, asking him to come find his father in New Orleans, changes his life. Great, heart-warming story of faith and hope.
Isn’t it fun winning books?
I loved the Build Your Own Boyfriend game, but the book . . . just didn’t do a thing for me. I hope you like it as much as Eva did. Books need to be loved.
Melody – We miss seeing you in blogland but I guess we can be patient with you 🙂 I hope you and the baby are doing well and that you are already training her to be a good little bookworm!
Isabel – Oh I’m really looking forward to your review on the Virginia Woolf book. I loved Mrs. Dalloway but just haven’t been able to read more by her. I am still a bit intimidated I guess 🙂
Avisannschild – We moved earlier this summer and the first thing I did was unpack my books and organize them. I hated having them in boxes so I understand. Well just think of all the fun you will have when you unearth your treasures again 🙂
Lisa – That happens sometimes to me too. Everyone will talk about a book and it seems the more buzz they get the farther I want to be from it. I hope Matrimony will be a winner – I mean everyone has said so 🙂
Andi – Well, then, I’m in good company 🙂
Dawn – Oh don’t even get me started on pictures! haha… That is so true. I think I’ll stay away from the boxes of the picture books while I organize so as not to be tempted 🙂
bookworm – Thank you! I think I’m in for some fun times!
Les in NE – Well, I’m a step ahead of you – for once! haha. I swear, it seemed like earlier this year every book you mentioned I was planning to read it next. Love it when great minds are in sync. Hope you are doing well Les! 🙂
Lizzie – Yep, been in that situation with no more bookshelves. I think it’s a constant problem but at least that’s a problem I don’t mind having! Thank you for letting me know about the book. I’ll have to check it out!
Bookfool, aka Nancy – It sure is. I want to keep joining more giveaways but then I don’t want to come off like such a greedy bookgirl but well, I am one 🙂 I’ll keep you posted on how it goes with the Boyfriend book!
Oh, let’s see — recently I mooched a copy of Elizabeth George’s first novel, from fellow blogger Charlotte. That should be fun!
Glad to hear Matrimony arrived safely. I hope you enjoy it!
Dorothy W. – I really liked that book! I need to follow up with the series but I hear it’s one that really gets better as you get into it. Hope you like it!
Tara – yay, thank you again 🙂
Whenever I spend time trying to organize, the time seems to fly by and I hardly make a dent. I need to do some weeding out in my TBR room, but I keep making excuses not to get started. This weekend’s excuse is the company coming. 🙂 I still haven’t quite got my desk organized. Maybe I should instead focus on that.
Your new additions sound great, especially The Wasted Vigil. I do hope you like Matrimony!
Enjoy the rest of the week!
Literary Feline – Ha, that’s so true isn’t it! And, guess what? I’m going to use your same excuse because we’ve got a friend in town this weekend. Darn, I guess no organizing 😉
