Oh how I love to look back at what I’ve read throughout the year and revisit with the books that moved me. Whether they made me cry, laugh, think or simply entertain, I read a lot of books I enjoyed. Now, let me highlight the ones that really made my reading year. Here they are:
Fiction
The Post-Office Girl by Stefan Zweig
The Slaves of Solitude by Patrick Hamilton
My Cousin Rachel by Daphne DuMaurier
Persuasion by Jane Austen
Out Stealing Horses by Per Petterson
YA
Pieces of Me by Charlotte Gingras
Speak by Laurie Halse Andersen
Crank by Ellen Hopkins
Mystery
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
A Morbid Taste For Bones by Ellis Peters
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
The Blank Wall by Elisabeth Sanxay Holding
Unfortunately, I didn’t do a very good job of reviewing a lot of the books I read this year so that’s why some of the books shown here don’t have links. Here’s hoping next year I’m a little bit more on top of things.
And, I have to point out that once again books that I read with the Slaves of Golconda ended up on my list of favorites (the Zweig & Hamilton). So if you are looking for an online book group discussion join us. We really read some gems throughout the year.
I’ll be looking forward to reading your best of lists too and tomorrow my end of year stats!
Great list! I’ve only read one of these (Speak), but I’m definitely game to check out more of them. Especially The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Here’s to a good reading year in 2010, Iliana!
You did some good reading Iliana 🙂 I hope the coming year finds your nightstand stacked with many more good books and plenty more to fill your bookshelves.
Happy New Year!
I always feel good if I’ve read a couple of books on people’s list (or even heard of them!). You’ve got a nice list here…I can certainly vouch for Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and Persuasion!
Sounds like you had a good reading year, Iliana. 🙂 The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson & Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn are two I wouldn’t mind getting to this year. Hopefully.
There are some great books on your list–The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Persuasion, My Cousin Rachel.
Enjoyed your favorites list. A Slaves book made it onto my list too. Gotta love the Slaves group! Happy New Year!
I have The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo on my list for this coming year and I found two challenges that are right up my ally. I guess I will revive my book blog in the new year too.
I loved The Post Office Girl too. I am struggling to catch up with reviews and may just abandon them and start anew next year. I hope you have a fabulous new year.
Great books on your list. I look forward to seeing what great books you will read in 2010. As always, you are an inspiration to me!!
Great list of books. Looks like a great year! Here’s to a great 2010! Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Iliana! I hope 2010 is a great year for books, and everything else. 😀
It was fun to read your list. I’m in the middle of a Patrick Hamilton myself. Hope 2010 is great for your reading and otherwise!
Great list. I am looking forward to Post Office Girl in 2010.
Hope that you have a Happy and Healthy New Year. May all they books that your read in 2010 be terrific.
The Slaves really did read some great books this year! I loved the Per Petterson book when I read it and really do want to read more of his work. So glad to see Persuasion there, too, as that’s one of my all time favorites! Happy New Year and Happy Reading in 2010!
I got Slaves of Solitude for Christmas and cannot wait to read it, and I have at least four other books on your list on my TBR: Sharp Objects, The Post Office Girl, My Cousin Rachel, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Out Stealing Horses on the TBR. 🙂
I loved My Cousin Rachel and Speak also! In fact it was probably your blog that turned me onto Speak!
Another Stieg Larsson fan here! And I enjoyed Out Stealing Horses as well. Other than that there are some books on your list that I have on my TBR list! Here’s to another good reading year in 2010.
Hey Everyone – So good to see so many of you have read some of my favorites or you have them on your TBR list! Hope you all have a great reading year ahead too 🙂
I love your lists! Three of the fiction ones I love myself (the Austen plus the Slaves books) and the other two I would like to get to at some point.
Great list! I hope to read The Post Office Girl at some point, and I plan to read Persuasion this year.
Very nice list! I keep hearing good things about Out Stealing Horses. I’ll have to get a copy so it can nag me from my nightstand. 😉 I enjoyed The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and hope to read the next in the series before the 3rd is released on the U.S.
Happy New Year and here’s to a great year of reading!
