I really tried to resist signing up but just couldn’t. Stephanie has come up with the fantastic Everything Austen Challenge which starts July 15 and goes through January 1, 2010.
You can read the books, spin-offs, and/or even watch the films. Just choose six Austen-themed things. Who can resist that?
Aside from the fact that this is one cool challenge, I watched a movie recently that would fit perfectly for this so I thought why not join. So here are my six choices, which of course are subject to change depending on my reading & watching whims.
- Persuasion. I recently bought this book and I remember several of you telling me it’s your favorite book. I know Melody reviewed it not too long ago either so that’s the one I want to read next.
- Lady Susan. The Slaves read this one last year and I just didn’t get around to it in time for the discussion but I still want to read it.
- Emma. I just watched this film but more on it later. Suffice it to say, I loved it.
- Miss Austen Regrets. Christine sent me this DVD and if she liked it, I know I will too.
- Northanger Abbey. Another DVD Christine sent me. Northanger Abbey is quite special to me. I read this one when Christine and I were wandering around in Bath several years ago. I can’t wait to see the film version.
- Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict by Laurie Viera Rigler. I first heard of this book from Naida and it sounded really cute, plus I won a copy of it via a giveaway she had.
So those are my picks. I know from my sidebar it looks like I’m behind on most of my challenges but I’ve got a couple of updates so more on those tomorrow.

This challenge sounds fun! I’m still debating if I should join… so many challenges and I know I’m way behind them, LOL. I hope you enjoy Persuasion! It’s one of my favourite Austens’ after P&P! 🙂
Glad you’re joining us. I still haven’t nailed down a list for the challenge, but I know it’ll be a mix of books and movies.
Oh, you are such a temptress! I love Austen, but I guess I will try to finish my Classics Challenge with her. I do intend, eventually, to read everything she has written!
Yay for Persuasion – Captain Wentworth really is as swoonworthy as Darcy and much more entitled to his righteousness.
Oh, this is sooo tempting! I’m so behind, though. I’m going to have to think about this one. 🙂
Melody – I know, there are so many good challenges out there! I figured as I was planning to read Persuasion and just saw one Austen movie then at least I was starting off on the right food 🙂
Anna – I loved that we could do a bit of a mix too. I hope it’ll help me actually finish a challenge – haha.
Sandy – It’s all Stephanie’s fault 🙂 I’ve only read two Austen books so slowly but surely I’m working on them.
Jodie – Oh yay! Swoonworthy is very good 🙂
Tiffany – I kept seeing so many of my blog friends join in and Austen seems to be all around us so I had to! Come on join us 🙂
This is one I won’t have any problem avoiding. I tried to do this challenge or a similar one because my oldest daughter is a big Jane Austen fan but I just could not drag myself through any of her books. Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict is a pretty fun read.
I’m so glad that you joined this challenge. Its going to be fun.
I am resisting..don’t push me please 😉 😀
Juliann – Oh no really? Ah well, at least one challenge you aren’t tempted by then 🙂
Serena (Savvy Verse & Wit) – We are going to have a blast! 🙂
Veens – C’mon, you know you want to join! 🙂
This sounds like a great challenge! I don’t think I’ll do it officially, but maybe I’ll read or watch something associated with Jane, and I’ll certain follow what other people are reading. Enjoy!
Good luck with this challenge, Iliana. It is so tempting! I would like to eventually read all of Austen’s books (and see all the corresponding movies). I’m working my way through them, slowly but surely. 🙂
I’m glad you decided to join the challenge! I caught part of Miss Austen Regrets on tv the other day. I wish I’d know it was on as I would’ve recorded it. Oh well. Northanger Abbey is one of the few Austen film versions that I haven’t seen. I must try to rectify that!
I’m still resisting this challenge … but the pull is strong!
I enjoyed CONFESSIONS OF A JANE AUSTEN addict, and recently read/reviewed the follow-up (well, parallel story), RUDE AWAKENINGS.
Have fun with the challenge – nice that it’s open to ‘everything Austen’ – books, remakes, movies, etc.
