December is really flying by isn’t it? I hope you’ve all been enjoying the season and all your plans for the upcoming festivities are going well.
I’ve still been super busy at work and even missed my book club meet up last week because I was so tired but this has been a good weekend. Finally put up our mini Christmas tree, went thrifting (it’s been so long) and got in some reading time and crafting time.
I’ve been really in the mood for light reads and picked up The Book Club Hotel by Sarah Morgan. It’s delightful and all I know is that I want to run off to a cute boutique B&B for a week stay and be pampered and read all day. No cell phones, no emails, just books, warm drinks, nature and relaxation. Doesn’t that sound divine? I think that’s why I’m loving this book so much because I’m imagining being there! haha…
I’m listening to The Secret of Snow by Viola Shipman. This is about Sonny Dunes, a Palm Springs meteorologist who is replaced by a virtual meteorologist. Sonny decides to return home to northern Michigan. This one is quite predictable and I wasn’t sure if I was going to DNF or finish but I liked reading about all the winter festivals and some of the minor characters are making this one worthwhile.
I’m still making my way through a yearlong poetry book and should have that finished on the last day of the year.
Speaking of which, yes, I have started my annual favorites and year in review post. I love putting that together. I’m also thinking about reading plans for next year and actually some crafty plans too. I’ve enrolled in a year-long online art class so I’m super excited about that. I hope you all have a wonderful week and more book talk soon!
I’m currently reading JFK’s Last Hundred Days. We went to the JFK library a few weeks ago and I wanted to learn more. I agree that things have been very, very busy and stressful. I have THREE hearings this week (I’;m a lawyer) and that is a lot! I’m glad though that you had a good weekend and that you got t o do some thrifting – self care is a must!
That sounds like a good book on northern Michigan and all the fests.

Glad you got to enjoy some reading time, Iliana. I have THE BOOK CLUB HOTEL on my Kindle (think it might have been a ‘special’ on Amazon). Hope to read it at some point. Sounds like a fun place to visit virtually – ha! Wishing you and your family a happy holiday time in the next couple of weeks. I need to think about a year-end post maybe. I’ve read a really low-for-me number of books this year. Maybe my goals for 2024 will be to try for previous reading levels again. LOL
Running off to a B&B like the one in The Book Club Hotel does sound divine. And a perfect way to spend Christmas. My Christmas break starts on Wednesday and I am counting the hours! can’t wait to see your favorites list. 😀
It really is a very busy month, but due to several nights of insomnia, I’ve read a lot of books in the past few weeks! I think Allen Eskens is my new favorite thriller/mystery author!
The Book Club Hotel sounds perfect right about now. It also makes me want to reread Bachelor Brothers Bed & Breakfast. Maybe I’ll make that my first book of January!
I’ll be anxious to see your year-end wrap-up, Iliana. Sounds like you have a fun year ahead with your art class! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Hmm. I’m curious about the online art class. Is that drawing or what? It sounds like a great endeavor … to try out.
The Book Club Hotel sounds like just what I need right now! Wishing you a very merry Christmas week.
I loved The Book Club Hotel was so lovely! And yes, I would love to visit an Inn just like the one described, too! I love thrifting, but like you I haven’t much time for it lately. I’m also putting together a list of my favorites for my end of the year posts. Hope you get some rest and enjoy the holidays!
I read a couple of your other posts, but was unable to comment on them. Not sure if you closed the commenting off on them. Anyhow, for your Christmas reading post, I loved (as I mentioned above) The Book Club Hotel and I found The Christmas Appeal entertaining. Loved Christmas Presents by Lisa Unger, a novella not on your list, but a definite recommend.
