I don’t know about you but I’m thrilled the weekend is almost here. This week has been busy at work, I’m still getting over my cold and yesterday traffic was nuts and it took me two hours to get home from work. So, yes, I’m ready for the weekend!
Anyway it’s been a while since I’ve talked about my current reads and I actually have several new books going on that I thought it’d be good to do a little check in. Here’s what I’m reading:
Shake Loose My Skin by Sonia Sanchez. I’ve never read any poetry by Sanchez before but I’m really enjoying this collection. I feel like some of the poems are like snapshots of scenes from her life.
Don’t You Cry by Mary Kubica. This is a thriller about two friends. One disappears and the other one wonders if she ever knew her friend at all. It’s supposed to be a twisted thrill ride like, you guessed it, novels by Gillian Flynn and Paula Hawkins.
Blood, Salt, Water by Denise Mina. I recently posted an intro about this one. This is for my mystery book group so it’s the one I’ll be focusing on more this weekend.
Not pictured are The Expatriates by Janice Y.K. Lee (on my Kindle) and Zagreb Noir which I’ve sort of forgotten about. It’s easier to put aside short story collections as long as you aren’t in the middle of a story. I will get back to this one though as I have enjoyed it so far. As far as The Expatriates goes I am very much in the beginning of that one so can’t tell you too much.
So I’m planning to be busy reading this weekend and catching up on blog reading. Oh and it’s been several weeks since the husband and I went for our date night at the bookstore so we are there this weekend. Hope you all have a great weekend and more book talk soon!
🙂 Have a great bookstore date night and a good reading weekend!
Hope you feel better and that you’ve a wonderful date night at the bookstore. Looking forward to your thoughts on those books you mentioned; they all sound very interesting!
So glad to hear you are enjoying Sonia Sanchez! Have a great weekend!
The Expatriates has been on my pile for a few weeks, but I keep setting it aside in favor of some other book. It’s a shame because the premise sounds so good. Maybe this weekend I’ll finally pick it up.
A bookstore date night is such a great idea! Unfortunately there is no bookstore here, which is why online shopping is my thing more and more these days. Have a great time!
I love that you and your husband go to the bookstore for date night! I hope you got a chance to do it this weekend! Which books did you read/buy?
Yay for short stories! It is nice that they are so easy to dip into when you are in the mood and then you can pick them up later and not worry that you have lost the thread! I hope you had a great weekend and got in lots of reading!
