This month I have certainly felt like I’ve been stuck on one book and that’s The Secret Place by Tana French. This was my New Year’s day book. Yes, it is that slow going. I do like it but I don’t remember any other French book taking me this long.
I’ve read some other books in between but that’s one I can’t believe is still on my nightstand. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I can finish it before the month is over.
What else am I reading? A bit of this and that.
I have House Of Light by Mary Oliver. This poetry collection has a lot of beautiful imagery of natural wonders and faraway lands. Unlike any other book, when I read poetry book a lot of times I read the poems out of order. I’ll pick a page at random and go back and forth.
Lovers on All Saint’s Day by Juan Gabriel Vasquez. All of the stories in this collection are set in Europe and apparently were written during the author’s self-imposed exile from Colombia. I just started this last night so I’ll have to tell you more about it as I get into it a bit more.
Fairy Gardening by Julie Bawden-Davids and Beverly Turner. Ok, I’m not reading this page by page but am enjoying a lot of the pictures and ideas presented. I have been wanting to do a fairy garden and think this will be the year!
Finally, my lunch time read which is on my Kindle and not pictured here, is I’ll See You In Paris by Michelle Gable. Annie travels with her mom to England and along the way finds out more about her father and her family’s history. I’m not that far into the story but when are we getting to Paris? I don’t often read during my lunch break so it may take me a while to finish this one.
I remember The Secret Place being a slower French book. I think my favorite is actually that one with Frank’s family – Faithful Place. I’m ready for a new one from her. Wonder if we’ll get one this year.
I think my favourite Tana French books will be In the Woods and The Likeness. I’m hoping we will see her new book this year; the same goes to Mo Hayder as there isn’t a new book out last year. I really love her books!
I hate when what looks like a totally manageable book takes forever! Hope you can finish it before the month is out and start fresh in March. 🙂
I’m ready for a new Tana French as well. Like Melody, my favorites were the first two in the series. I bought a couple of fairy garden books when we made some with the kids a couple of years ago. I agree–just looking at the pictures is delightful!
Yo must take photos if you do a fairy garden!
I have read all of Tana French’s books, and I started this one as a galley copy but didn’t finish it before it expired. And that was when it was coming out in hardcover! Needless to say I will likely have to start from the beginning again and at least skim that first part when I get back to it. I recall that it was good, but not one you race through!
I agree. The Secret Place is my least favorite of Tana French’s books and it took me forever to finish. That said, I can’t wait for her next book. I did a little searching and it looks like she has a new one coming out called The Trespasser. Looks like it will be out in August. Whoop!
