Three good books are all demanding my attention right now. Here’s what I’m reading:
- What Angels Fear by C.S. Harris.
“It had been a long night, a night of brandy fumes and cigar smoke, of faro and vingt-et-un and a promise made to a sad-eyed woman – a promise that he would not kill, however much the man he had come here to meet might deserve killing.”
Sebastian St. Cyr is a young nobleman shattered by his experience in the Napoleonic Wars and now running for his life. - The Case of Madeleine Smith by Rick Geary.
“How does a well-born and respectable young lady find herself under arrest for the ultimate crime?”
A graphic novel about the scandalous secret affair in 19th century Scotland between an upperclass woman and a gentleman of lower standing ends in his murder by poison… - Hearts and Minds by Rosy Thornton.
“For Martha the start of a new academic year always brought a thrill of excitement: a sense, shared with the newcomers, of infinite possibilities – the ideals as yet uncompromised, the hopes as yet unqualified, the brand new stationery.”
A novel about life in a women-only Cambridge college and the pitfalls that await its new Head of House, a man.
And, of course I have a pile of books waiting to be reviewed, read and so on. Sorry for the short post but I’m going back to the books.

Happy reading, Iliana! 😀
I may not be able to resist Hearts and Minds, as so many people are reading it and it sounds wonderful!
Hearts and Minds sounds right up my alley. I love me an academic novel. Whee!
Oh, they all sound good. I can see why you were anxious to get back to them.
I’ve seen several mentions of Hearts and Minds lately. Need to check that one out.
I am jumping back and forth on books also.
Hope you stay a bit focused.
I always loved the start of the academic year myself. Will definitely check out Hearts and Minds.
If you have room for good suspense tale on your list, check out Dancing
Above the Waves by Susan Walenstein. The premise of a hit and run accident and the chain of events it unleashes makes it a real page-turner.
Melody – I’m having a good time 🙂
Dorothy W. – I think you’d especially like it because of the academic setting. You may find something in there to relate to! 🙂
Andi – Yep, I think this is one for you too!
tanabata – I was going back on forth on all of them last night. It’s so nice to be in the middle of good books.
jenclair – I hope you’ll check it out. What I’ve read so far has been very good.
Isabel – Hee,hee… Hope you’re reading some good stuff!
Ruth – Oh then this is a good book for you 🙂 Thank you for the info on Dancing Above the Waves. I’ll do love a good page-turner!
They all sound so good, Iliana. I hope your finding them to be so. Happy reading!
Literary Feline – These are good ones. I just finished the graphic novel and it was fun.
That C.S. Harris book looks interesting. Have you read any other Sebastian St. Cyr mysteries ?
Gavin – No, this is the first one I’ve picked up. I gotta read them in order 🙂 So far though, I can pretty much say I’ll be checking out the next one. Unless this one terribly disappoints me in the end but so far I have a good feeling about it!
I keep reading about the Thornton book all over the place….I need to get to it soon!
Danielle – I can imagine if I was in academia I’d be enjoying the book even more. That’s not to say I’m not but I feel like I’ve stepped into a small world 🙂
Hearts and Minds sounds really interesting. Are you enjoying it?
