I hope you are all doing well and had a good weekend. We ventured out to Target this morning to stock up on some stuff. Well, as much as you can stock up when finding items on shelves is still hit or miss.
The last several days have been pretty stressful as I’ve had some family members in the hospital so to be separated by countries and now the pandemic is really difficult. Both seem to be doing better and just sending prayers for them and keeping in touch via phone as much as possible until we can meet again.
Thanks to jenclair who shares with us about her mail art, she recently posted about calls for cards for those in nursing homes or hospitals who aren’t allowed visits during this time and how much they miss interaction. Well, I’m drowning in paper and I love to craft, so I got to it on Saturday and made several cards to mail out. It was so fun to do this and just wanted to share about that in case you have some time on your hands and could send out some mail to make someone’s day.
On the book front, I’m still feel like I’m reading at a snail’s pace. Today you know what I was really missing? Our outings to the bookstore. I missing sitting down at a table, cafe mocha in hand and stacks of magazines and books. Not that I don’t have books to read but I’m seriously missing our weekly visits.
Anyway, I hope you have a good week ahead and let me know what you were up to this weekend.
Oh, beautiful cards, Iliana! I know you are missing your outings to bookstores and checking out the craft magazines! It is interesting to see what people miss most during these lock-down days. Family, friends, restaurants, coffee shops, and the list goes on and on. I’m sorry to hear about family members in the hospital–are they in Germany or here? Thanks for the mention and for sending cards to those who are isolated from the human touch! I’m so grateful to not be totally alone in the shelter in place times.. How much harder it must be for those who live alone or are in the hospital or nursing homes without visitors.
Iliana, your cards are indeed beautiful and I’m sure will be much appreciated. So sorry about your family members that have been in the hospital. Will keep them in my prayers. I’m so grateful that we are still having cool mornings for me to walk outside in our neighborhood. I dread the heat and humidity that will come, even early in the morning. When it’s almost 100% humidity, the low 70’s doesn’t feel very cool. Take care and I hope your week goes well.
Your cards are beautiful, Iliana!
I’m sorry to hear some of your family members are in the hospital. I hope they’ll recover quickly and discharge soon.
My reading progress has been on and off and it all depends on my mood lately. And I miss visiting the bookstores and libraries so much! Hope you’ve a good week ahead!
I am so sorry to hear you have family in the hospital, Iliana. This distancing does make it more difficult in cases like this, doesn’t it? I’m sending prayers.
If I can get my daughter to do her school work in a decent amount of time instead of dragging it out, I thought perhaps in the afternoons I could convince her dray pictures or write letters. I love your homemade cards! I don’t have the supplies for anything like that, but we can make do with what we have. They just won’t be as pretty. Haha
Take care of yourself.
You are so talented! I love your cards and know they’ll be appreciated by those who receive them. I’m keeping your family members in my thoughts. How worrisome to know that they are ill but can’t have any visitors. I can only imagine how lonely everyone who is in a hospital right now must be feeling. Thank goodness for phone calls (or Facetime/Zoom chats), right? Take good care. I’m off to work on another puzzle. 🙂
Jen Mullen – Thank you again for posting the info on where to mail cards. I read of another call for mail and need to send you the details. Luckily my family members seem to be doing better. One is in Germany and out of the hospital, the other in Mexico and should soon be out. Thank you for the prayers!
Kay – Thank you so much for the sweet comments and prayers. Much appreciated! I know I was surprised how cool the weather has been. Granted today was so humid right? I believe we’re supposed to get storms but I’m doubtful now. Hope you can still get more walks in before the heat starts!
Melody – You are so sweet! Thank you for the good wishes and luckily both seem to be on the mend. Our State is “opening” up soon but I plan to stay away from stores for a while longer. I just feel it’s better to be safe. But definitely miss the bookstores!
Literary Feline – Thank you so much for the prayers! It really is hard to be apart and know you can’t do anything about it. I hope you and Mouse think about making some cards. I’m sure they will be lovely! I lucked out and got some pretty scrapbook paper so there really wasn’t very much to the cards.
Les in OR – Oh you are so sweet but like I said, it’s easy to make these cards when the papers are so pretty 🙂 Thank you so much for the well wishes for my family. I know, hospitals/nursing homes are no fun to begin with and throw this into the mix and I’m sure lots of people are suffering not just from ailments but sadness. Yes, thank goodness for phone calls/zoom/whatsup you name it. Have fun with the puzzles – they are awesome!
Love your cards and wishing your family members a speedy and complete recovery
I’m sure your cards and greetings will be much appreciated. As much as we tend to be preoccupied by what we cannot do, there are always things that we can do. And even though you can’t be with your family members now, your gestures to strangers are an example of the kindness we can show to our fellow human beings, and there will be some strangers with your family members who have the same thought and are caring for them in your absence too. Regular coffee-shop visits are something I miss too. I miss having random conversations about the book I’d be carrying. But there are also many wonderful aspects to these quiet and more-solitary days, too. Best to you and yours. 🙂
How nice, the cards are beautiful and they will make the recipients smile!
I am sorry about your loved ones, I hope they get well soon. It’s such a hard time right now.
It’s been cold and rainy here and finally this upcoming weekend and into next week we are expecting beautiful weather in the 60’s and 70’s. We’re planning on bbq-ing here at home, just us and it will be nice to eat in the backyard and get fresh air and sun.
I soooo miss going out to grab a bite to eat at our favorite places. Enjoy your crafting and your books this weekend.
I rarely buy books from bookstores but being able to browse one is one of the best forms of therapy and fun. I sorely miss it.
So sorry about your loved ones. I hope they are doing better. The pandemic has definitely made it harder to see family and friends, so it’s extra hard when someone needs medical attention. Hang in there! Sending you virtual hugs and prayers.
Im just catching up but so sorry about your ill family members. The cards are lovely and will be appreciated.
