By now everyone’s heard of about the R.I.P. III Challenge, right? Carl V. is once again hosting this fun challenge which has readers pursuing some spooky books. I’ve participated in the previous two years and I couldn’t pass up another go at this challenge.
So starting September 1 and going through end of October, we can choose from a couple of the Perils proposed for the challenge. I’m going to go with Peril II which involves reading two books of any length from any sub-genre of scary stories.
I have a bunch of books I could choose from so here are some of my choices (all of which come from my stacks):
- Nocturnes by John Connelly
- The Good House by Tananarive Due
- Rises the Night by Colleen Gleason
- The Turn of the Screw by Henry James
- Hallowe’en Party by Agatha Christie
- Coraline by Neil Gaiman
I can’t wait to get started!

Great list, Iliana! I can’t wait to read what you’ll think of Coraline. I really enjoyed reading this book! 🙂
I am thinking about doing this challenge. So many books….
I hadn’t heard of The Good House but it sounds good, and it has a great cover! And if I like The Book of Lost Things, which seems a given since everyone seems to love it, I’m sure I’ll be wanting Nocturnes. This is such a fun challenge. 🙂
Good choices!
What a yummy list! looking forward to reading about the ones you choose!
Can’t wait to hear how it goes! I’m too overwhelmed by reading (ok, and work) right now to take on another challenge! Good luck!
Coraline is a good, spooky story and should be a quick read for you. My hubby even enjoyed that one. (I made him listen to it)
Good list of books there! Good luck!
Lovely list, looking forward to this challenge.
I blogged about your Etsy shop here http://prettylittleloveobjects.blogspot.com/2008/08/tried-out.html hope you like it!
I am so glad you are joining in! Is this your first time reading Coraline? Can’t wait to see what you think. I am really looking forward to the film in February.
The only one on your list that I’ve read is Coraline, which I enjoyed very much. Good luck!
I have Coraline on my list also and based on the comments left on my post, it should be a good one!
I can’t WAIT to hear what you think of Nocturnes. I’m terribly interested in Connolly after The Book of Lost Things.
Nice choices, I read ‘Coraline’ and loved it. Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving such nice comments. Happy reading 🙂
Melody – I can’t wait either. I’m even tempted to get in on audio book because I remember some people saying it was very good too.
Jessica – Oh I hope you join in. Carl knows how to put together a fabulous challenge!
tanabata – The Good House is one of those books which has been sitting on my shelves for years. It look deliciously creepy doesn’t it? 🙂
Chris – I’m excited about them!
Stefanie – I want to read them all… Let’s just hope I at least read the two for the challenge! 🙂
Tiffany – I’m a bit overwhelmed by my challenges too but I’ve participated in this one every year (never completing it!) so I’m going to really try this time around.
Heather – It’ll be great to read it too because I’ve never read anything by Neil Gaiman and everyone always raves about his stuff right? I’m so behind!
Jodie – Did you already post your list? Did I miss it? I’ll be back to check. Thank you so much for the nice shout-out! You rock. That totally made my day!
Carl V. – I’m so excited to join. And, yes it’ll be the first time I try Coraline! I attempted to read it for the Once Upon a Time Challenge but ran out of time so hopefully this time I’ll make it 🙂
Lesley – Thank you! I am going to need some luck – I’m so behind on my challenges – ha.
Stephanie – I’m glad I’m not the only one who hasn’t read it yet! I think we are in for a treat 🙂
Andi – I found that book at HPB and the description sounds great. Still haven’t read Book of Lost Things. So many books….
bookworm – Hey, good to see you here! I think I need to start with Coraline soon 🙂
Lovely list! I’m a fan of Neil Gaiman so seeing Coraline on RIP pools is fun and I wish all turn into Gaiman-converts after 🙂 Well, even if I’m not a Gaiman fan Coraline is a lovely, lovely, lovely, creepy, lovely book 🙂
I loved the atmosphere of Nocturnes. I hope you enjoy that as well. And we both have the first book in Gleason’s series for this year’s pool!
I love checking out everyone’s lists! I really like Henry James Turn of the Screw. There was a great BBC film made of it as well. I listened to the audio of Coraline read by Neil Gaiman and it was great!
Good luck with the challenge, Iliana. I just finished reading Rises the Night and hope to pick up The Bleeding Dusk later this weekend.
Lightheaded – I’ve not any Gaiman! Isn’t that just terribly wrong? 🙂 I’m so excited to about that book and hopefully I’ll get to all the ones on my list. I can’t wait to see what you’ve chosen!
Danielle – Isn’t it fun to see what’s on everyone’s lists? I swear that’s so dangerous as I end up adding more books to mine too – ha,ha.. I am pretty sure I’ve seen that BBC production. It was so creepy – loved it!
Literary Feline – Thank you! I really liked the first Gardella book and as usual meant to read the second but you know how that goes. Hopefully I’ll get to it this Fall!
I really look forward to your reviews, especially of Nocturnes and Coraline 🙂
I’m going to read Nocturnes too!! I loved Coraline, and I just can’t gush enough about Colleen Gleason. Of course, I’m way behind on finishing the series. I’m reading Book 3 right now!
Nymeth – I can’t wait to read those. I keep hearing so many good things about both. I know I’m missing out! 🙂
Stephanie – I don’t know how I fell so behind on Colleen’s series. I wanna know who she’s going to fall for in the next book 🙂
Hey Iliana! It has been such a long time since I dropped by here. So sorry about that! I see you have an Etsy shop now! Yay! Have hearted you. 🙂
Great choices for the challenge. I will be looking out for your thoughts on Nocturnes, I loved The Book of Lost Things so I would really like to try some of Connolly’s other work (although I realise it is supposed to be quite different to The Book of Lost Things).
