I shouldn’t even think about doing any other challenges but they are just so fun how can I resist. There are two challenges that I’ve been thinking about lately and one was as a result of watching a couple of good movies.
Recently I saw Evening based on the novel by Susan Minot and I quite liked the film. The setting was gorgeous and some of the messages about friendship and family were really meaningful to me. Then, this weekend I watched Everything is Illuminated based on the book by Jonathan Safran Foer and I loved the idea of a “collector”, and I must add the soundtrack to this film to my iTunes.
So these movies have made me want to read the novels they were based on which means I might as well join the Book to Movie Challenge that Callista is hosting don’t you think? I’d just need to select one more book to read but that shouldn’t be too difficult.
The other challenge I found out via Dorothy’s blog and that’s the Outmoded Authors challenge. I already have books by Sybille Bedford, May Sarton and Elizabeth Bowen which have all been sitting on my shelves for way to long. This would be the perfect time to finally read these authors.
Both challenges start September 1st so I still have time to think about these, and hopefully still a bit of time to make some progress in my current challenges even if I don’t finish them. What do you think? I should just join in anyway right? Decisions, decisions…
Yes, what’s a couple more challenges π Are you going to join the second season of the R.I.P. challenge? You can’t forget about that one. π
Evening is such a great book! I hope the movie did it justice!
I shouldn’t be doing a new challenge either, but I think I will — oh well!
May Sarton is one of the authors I have lined up, so if you’re signing up for the Outmoded Authors Challenge, I’ll be reading her with you. π
I’ve got only two challenges in mind right now: Carl’s R.I.P Challenge and Sycorax Pine’s Unread Author Challenge. Not sure when Carl’s begins, but Pine’s begins in September. That gives me the rest of August to finish some of the books in my current stack…
I love the idea of the outmoded authors challenge, too! Of course, I can barely–or won’t–finish the challenges I’ve already signed up for, but what the heck, I’ll probably just join more!
I agree! Challenges are so much fun! I can’t seem to ever FINISH one, but I just keep signing up anyway! I’m all up for Carl’s RIP though!
We just got back from vacation and I’m trying to catch up on all my favorite blogs! I’ve missed you guys!
I’m doing the Outmoded Author challenge. I figure it shouldn’t be too hard since we get six m onths and can read however many books we want to. Do it, Iliana, do it!
I am horrible at finishing challenges, too, but I decided to join Imani’s Outmoded Authors challenge. I also have several books by authors on the list that I have been meaning to read. Like Stefanie says–six months–I hope I could at least finish a few books in that time.
That book to movie challenge sure does catch my attention!
The movie tie-in challenge sounds like fun and very manageable. I’ve gotta come up with some titles for it before I sign up.
The armchair traveler challenge is coming along as I’ve completed the third book, Burmese days by George Orwell.
I had to return Everything Is Illuminated to the library when the book was recalled and I had manged only a third of it. I wasn’t really into it. Maybe I should see the movie first?!
Kailana – Oh you weren’t supposed to remind me about the R.I.P. challenge! ha,ha. You know I’ll sign up!
Kristen – I’ve read one book by Susan Minot and liked it a lot so I look forward to Evening. I thought the movie was really good even though I noticed some not so favorable critic reviews. ah well.
Dorothy W. – The lure of challenges right!
Dark Orpheus – See that makes it even harder to resist! Which May Sarton do you have?
Jenclair – ah, that’s right, Pine’s challenge would be a good one too. I typically read a “new” author every month anyway so why not!
Gentle Reader – Yay you signed up! So have you come up with your list of books? I’ll check out your blog to see if I can find it π
Stephanie – I saw some of the pics you posted of vacation! I bet that was a blast. So now it’s time to get back to the challenges right – ha,ha.
Stefanie – I think you’ve convinced me! I can’t wait to see your list. I bet you come up with some fantastic stuff to read.
Danielle – Oh so many bloggy friends are doing this challenge – yay! I have to join now then. Hopefully with six months I can finish at least a couple of books! ha,ha…
Christine – I think you should give it a go girl! And, Everything is Illuminated we watched as you had recommend it. Loved it.
Matt – You are already done with your third book for the Armchair travel challenge?! I’m so jealous. I haven’t even started!! And, I do recommend the movie. The music is fabulous. Makes me want to dance.
The Outmoded Authors challenge sounds interesting. I doubt I’ll join, but look forward to seeing reviews of books by the listed authors.
Estella’s Revenge will be begining a new challenge as well – reading authors that you’ve always been afraid of/shyed away from.
Tara – Doesn’t it sound good? I will need to go through my stacks this weekend and see if I have books that I can use for the challenge. That’s my one requirement to joining the challenges. The books have to come from my stacks! Otherwise I’ll never get through them. ha,ha…
Jodie – I just saw the email that Andi & Heather sent. I’ve sent them a suggestion. And, an Estella challenge? Well, how can I not join! π
Books to Movie – I love doing this already, so I’m in! Also, I plan to do a mini-book display case. It’s a small display case and your treasure will be the main attraction! π
Iliana: I’m going to tackle Sarton’s “Journal of a Solitude” – I have read bits of it from time to time, pondered, quoted some passages. But I’ve YET to sit down and actually finish the book. It’s a good time to try.
Jenclair: Actually, i was thinking of overlapping authors for Sycorax PineΓ’β¬β’s challenge with the Outmoded Authors. Maybe that’s cheating – but I LOVE living on the edge. ;p
I’m doing the Outmoded Authors challenge, which will just add to the general insanity I’ve been experiencing lately. But I really like an excuse to make book lists! I hope you join in, but I certainly understand if you don’t have time. π I’m reading both Elizabeth Bowen (The Last September) and May Sarton (The Small Room) for it, so it’ d be fun to see your thoughts as well!
3 down on Armchair Traveler Challenge, but I’m one short of the Mystery Challenge. Gotta hurry and read! π
Maggie – Oh you so rock! I can’t wait to see the display π
Dark Orpheus – I have Journal of a Solitude too! This weekend I’m going to think about the books for this challenge. And, I think overlapping on books is the way to go!
Eva – Don’t you love making book lists. True sign of bookishness! I’ll join you in the insanity π
Matt – Look at you! I’m still jealous π
Speaking of book to movie challenges, how do you feel about Atonement, which is coming out soon and based on Ian McEwan’s novel? Found the book a bit tedious myself, but the film might be much better. I don’t know many people that agree with this, but some films can actually redeem the books they’re based on…
I’m currently reading Sarton’s Journal of a Solitude and marking MANY of the passages. No more challenges for me, well maybe the RIP as I missed out on it last year…
Emz – I didn’t like Atonement but surprisingly I am looking forward to the movie!
Lazy Cow – Ooh I can’t wait to read it. I have heard so many good things about it. I say no more challenges and I cave in all the time π
It is hard to pass up a good challenge. π I really enjoyed Everything is Illuminated when I read it. I hope you will like it too.
I say, Take the Plunge! That’s coming from a blogger with a sever addiction to challenges.
Literary Feline – I know it is hard to pass them up. I’m glad to hear you liked Everything is Illuminated. I was never that intrigued by the book when it came out but after seeing the film I’d really like to read it.
Booklogged – Ha,ha… We need a book addicts group π
