So much for reading books from my bookshelf. I went to the library again over the weekend because I wanted to get some videos but who only goes to the library to get videos right? I actually had a good time wandering up and down the stacks and ended up checking out a few books.
The first one is The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett. I don’t think I even need to tell you what this one is about right? Everyone seems to love it and I hope I will too.
My other pick was A Trace of Smoke by Rebecca Cantrell which has gotten a lot of praise for being an atmospheric tale of suspense and murder.
The other find, which I hadn’t heard about before is The Possession of Mr. Cave by Matt Haig. A novel which focuses on the relationships between parents and teens.
Next up is The Scapegoat by Daphne Du Maurier. This is a tale of stolen identity and loaded with suspense. I really hope I can read this one before it’s due. Last year I read her novel My Cousin Rachel which I thoroughly enjoyed so I am hoping this will be just as good.
Finally I was intrigued by Girls of Riyadh by Rajaa Alsanea. This bestselling novel recounts forbidden details about the private lives of four young women from Saudi Arabia’s upper classes.
Have you read any of these? Which one should I start with first?
Sounds like you have a great stack of books! I checked The Scapegoat out of the library but never got the chance to finish it…the part I read was good though…hope you enjoy it!
I can’t wait to hear what you’ll think of The Uncommon Reader. I love reading books about books! 😉
I’ve not heard of the rest though so I look forward to your reviews. Happy reading!
I hope you will like the Uncommon Reader it is sweet and it kind of made m want to know what my royal family really does read (aside from the required political reading I mean).
I loved reading Daphne Du Maurier books last year and hope to read more this year. I haven’t read The Scapegoat yet – I hope it is good.
I LOVE Du Maurier…I’m currently reading My Cousin Rachel right now. I’ve not read any of these, but I don’t think you can go wrong with The Uncommon Reader.
Loved Uncommon Reader and I am sure you will too. The du Maurier sounds marvelous as well.
Ahh yes! I know this problem well. Can’t wait to read your review of The Uncommon Reader. I haven’t read it myself, but it sounds like a good one!
The Uncommon Reader is, indeed, a little treat of a book! I’m thinking I may need to reread some DuMaurier; it has been so long that they will be like new again!
Looking forward to your thoughts on The Uncommon Reader! It’s such a book lover’s book.
lol I never leave the library empty handed 🙂 Great picks, happy reading. I’ve been meaning to read Daphne Du Maurier.
I loved The Uncommon Reader. I hope you love it too. Happy reading.
Enjoy The Uncommon Reader! I’m pretty sure you will 🙂
I’ve not read any of them, but they all sound good. I also have Trace of Smoke checked out from my library at the moment and am hoping to get to it as well before it’s due. I think I must be the last person to read The Uncommon Reader by the way! Enjoy your books.
I’ve read the Girls of Riyadah and I was really expecting a lot from the book and thought I would love it. It’s been a while since I read it and didn’t blog then, so I can’t really recall why it didn’t captivate me. So I’d love to hear what you think of the book!
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on A Trace of Smoke. I put that on my TBR the instant I read about it, and it seems to be generating a positive buzz.
