I couldn’t resist temptation and am joining three challenges! Like I mentioned yesterday, I spent a good part of the weekend looking through my stacks of my unread books and I’ve decided which books to read for each challenge. Yes, all books are coming from my stacks. So here’s what I’m looking at for the Fall:
Outmoded Authors Challenge hosted by Imani.
Goal is to read three books between Sept. 1 and Feb. 29, 2008
Journal of a Solitude by May Sarton
A Favorite of the Gods by Sybille Bedford
The Death of the Heart by Elizabeth Bowen
Book to Movie Challenge hosted by Callista
Goal is to read three books between Sept. 1 and Dec. 1, 2007
Evening by Susan Minot
Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons
Shopgirl by Steve Martin
R.I.P. II Challenge hosted by Carl V.
Goal is to do the First Peril and read four books between Sept. 1 and Oct. 31, 2007
The Society of S by Susan Hubbard
Season of the Witch by Natasha Mostert
Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray
The Rest Falls Away by Colleen Gleason
Now I just need to get my husband to help me add the buttons on my sidebar. Anyway, a big thank you go out to Imani, Callista and Carl V. for hosting these challenges. I’m so excited about all of them. Wish me luck!
At least they’re all short ones! 😛
Looks like a few people are reading Season of the Witch. It’ll be interesting to see what everyone thinks of it.
Welcome to the crazy month of challenges!
Those challenges do look good, but I suck at keeping lists! Good luck on them, though, you have some good reads planned.
It’s madness isn’t it? Suddenly I have all these challenge icons at my sidebar too. So many!
I’ve just added two more myself. I’m usually pretty good about not joining too many at once, but…the devil (Chris) made me do it!
They are too fun to resist, aren’t they?
Enjoy … you’ve picked some fun ones!
Wow – it looks like you’ll be busy! (I’ll be very interested to see what you think of Society of S. I read the first two pages.) Good luck with the challenges!
Tanabata – I have to keep them somewhat manageable as I’m also trying to keep up with book groups. Yikes!
aka-Nik – Good luck with your challenges too.
Kailana – But don’t you have like a super long list to choose from for Carl’s challenge? I admit though I may be tempted to switch out a book here or there. You know those reading whims 🙂
Dark Orpheus – It is a madness. We need help 🙂
jenclair – Oh I can’t wait to see which ones you’ve joined. That’s what good friends are for right!
Dorothy W. – I use to resist more because I would feel guilty about not completing them but I’m over that now. It’s just too fun.
BookGal – Thank you! I hope I do enjoy them.
Chelle – You are doing Carl’s challenge too right? I do have my calendar full for sure.
So many challenges. I should join the RIP since I read so much of this genre and my next three books would qualify.
woah! i can’t even get through my first challenge! luck 🙂
You have some great books there to read for the challenges. I loved Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons (I also really liked the movie) and enjoyed Shopgirl by Steve Martin (more than the movie).
The R.I.P. II Challenge sounds like a lot of fun! I haven’t read any spooky novels in a long time..
Great lists! I think you will enjoy the Sarton book.
You are as bad as I am with the challenges!! I really have to stop joining them (after the RIP, that is!) because I am sucking big time! But I guess all the fun is in the trying!
GREAT choices all around. I’m especially excited that you’re reading Shopgirl as I just finished it a month or two ago, and I’m a huuuge fan of the movie. It’s so pretty.
Challenges are so irresistable! I want to join Imani’s but I’m shaky on what makes an outmoded author AND overchallenged. But I’m sure I’ll get plenty of ideas from read her and your reviews of outmoded authors. Have fun!
It’s challenge madness!!! So many books!!! I think I’ll participate the Out Moded Author Challenge since I’m not familiar with most of the authors. Gosh I need another run to the bookstore and library. 🙂
Cool! I made a list! Thank you so much.
Do you have The Society of S? If not, email me. 🙂
What a wonderful list (for each challenge!). You’re going to enjoy yourself and be very busy!
Nancy – Oh you should! Do it!! 🙂
aloi – Well, I haven’t had very good luck with challenges either but it’s just a great excuse to make reading plans. I love reading plans.
Christine – I have a great short creepy book if you want one. I’m really looking forward to Cold Comfort Farm since you told me about it so long ago!
Stefanie – I hope so. I know I have a couple of quotes that I’ve gleaned from other books/blogs that are attributed from May Sarton so I’ve been wanting to read her book for a while now.
Stephanie – Hee,hee. We can’t be helped right. Hope you’ll do well with this one too!
Andi – I loved Shopgirl (the movie) a lot and I remember reading about how you enjoyed the book too. I’m looking forward to it for sure. I’m also reminded that I need to get that movie for my DVD library.
Dew – This year I’ve read a couple of authors that I would consider outmoded and I really liked the books so I figured why not. I’m excited about that challenge definitely.
Matt – Indeed! And, see a perfect excuse for another bookstore/library run. I wanted to read a Somerset Maugham book for the Outmoded Authors challenge as I know you’ve recommended some of his books but I didn’t have one already. I should go to the bookstore and remedy that huh 🙂
Colleen Gleason – Well, I just can’t believe it’s taken me so long to finally get to your book. I’m so looking forward to it and I think it may be the first one I start the challenge with too! Oh and thank you but I do have The Society of S.
Robin – Thank you! The good thing is that with vacation coming up I hope that at least I’ll put in a little dent into all of these.
Thanks for joining the Book to Movie Challenge! I just went challenge crazy late last night and joined the Themed Reading Challenge, the Reading the Author challenge, the In Their Shoes challenge, the Index Liborum Liberorum challenge and the A to Z challenge plus i made my own personal challenge to read all of the Charmed books. Plus I was already signed up for 5 other challenges including my own.
That’s a great list! I really liked Shopgirl, it’s a fun read. The movie is not so bad, either, but I’m a big fan of Claire Danes.
Callista – I just saw all the challenges you joined – woot! Hope you have a blast. I know I will with yours. Thanks!
Alisia – I loved the movie. There’s one scene that just thinking about it still cracks me up. I’m really looking forward to the book.
I’m still toying with the idea of the Book to Movie Challenge. Practical Magic would work for both RIP II and Books to Movie, so we’ll see….
The scene in the movie that still cracks you up didn’t have anything to do with a cat, did it? 🙂
