This was a good weekend to catch up on my reading and celebrating. Thank you for all the birthday wishes. I celebrated by going to see Friends with Money, eating chocolate mousse cake and opening presents, although I only received one book. Shocker isn’t it? My friend Isabel sent me Canto General by Pablo Neruda.
I did get some beautiful handmade paper and a necklace from my husband and a lovely stationery set from Claire. I wonder if this means I owe her a letter? Hee,hee
Now about the reading I’ve been doing. I read The History of Love by Nicole Krauss over the weekend. I don’t even know how to explain this book right now. I’m still trying to digest it. It was complicated and tangled but ultimately a captivating read.
Unfortunately I can’t say the same for The Night Watch by Sarah Waters, which I was highly anticipating. I think this book suffered as I put it aside to read History of Love and couldn’t get back into it. To top it off it’s now due back at the library. I’ll have to read it another time.
Now I’ve started The Book of Trouble by Ann Marlowe and so far I’m enjoying it. Anyone else do a lot of reading over the weekend?
