This weekend has been about spending time with my books. That means putting the new ones that I bought at the sale in stacks (I’ve run out of shelf space), going to the bookstore for coffee and a short browse, and of course reading. I feel like I hardly did any reading last week. So strange.
Anyway now to do a bit of catch up on some things. First, I want to thank Imani for hosting the Outmoded Authors Challenge. Unfortunately, I only read one book, Journal of a Solitude, out of the three I had selected but I did love the book and have found a new author as a result of that. The challenge will be back in September so maybe next time I’ll do better.
Speaking of challenges, I just found out about a Novella Challenge that Trish is hosting. Isn’t that cool? I’m thinking about it but then I see all my other challenges. I’m actually doing pretty well on those and need to update some of my books read so stay tuned for that.
So, what have I been reading this weekend? Well, I’m halfway through The View from Castle Rock which I’m reading for A Curious Singularity. I am still very behind on Half of a Yellow Sun because I picked up a very good mystery. I wanted to finish Half of a Yellow Sun for book group on Tuesday but I don’t think that’s going to happen. Ah well, we’ll see.
I’m going to do the Novella Challenge! I’m excited that novellas are so short, lol. I had to giggle at your ‘stacks’: I’ve made mini stacks on top of the books neatly arranged on my shelves. And I’m worried that even that isn’t going to be enough soon: I never thought I’d say this, but thank God I don’t know of any annual book sales like the one you went to in this area!
Reading challenges are fun! It doesn’t matter if we don’t get to finish the challenges as reading pleasure and exploring new books are top priorities anyway. 😉 I used to feel bad, but I tell myself not to since I’d tried my best. The Novella Challenge sounds good, but I don’t think I’m able to take up anymore since I’m such a slow reader.
Looking forward to reading your reviews, Iliana! And happy reading! 😀
I feel like I’m really behind in my booking, too. Oh well. I’ll just keep reading. *grin*
You must have novellas in your stacks! I believe in double dipping. The Challenges are an incentive for me to read books from my stacks.
I realized last night that I had run out of shelf space too. I told my husband he was going to have to build me more ASAP! The challenges sound interesting. I’m going to check them out.
Eva – Good luck! I thinking about it and am so tempted 🙂 My poor bookshelves, they are double stacked and packed. It’s no wonder I forget about some books as they get pushed to the back. I just need to keep up with reading from my stacks and not the library ones – ha,ha.
Melody – That’s so true. Plus, it’s a great way to find about new books and meet other bookworms 🙂
aka_Nik – Hee, hee, I think that’s a normal feeling for us now isn’t it? And with so many new books coming out all the time – we just can’t keep up!
Isabel – Oh you are a wise woman. I may have to do that so I can participate. And, you are right, I’m mainly taking books from my stacks for the challenges so it’s a good way to whittle those down.
bibliophylia – You too huh? 🙂 Ah well, I think it’s a good problem to have right. Have fun with the challenge if you decide to take it on!
I’m still pursuing the outmoded authors although the challenge is over. Reading them is so much fun and is a work in progress. I have been introduced to Anna Kavan, Elizabeth Bowen and May Sarton, plus my beloved Somerset Maugham. 🙂
Novella Challenge sounds good, I’ll have to gather my books together. I am also hip-deep in the Chunkster Challenge, with Ken Follett’s latest novel, as well as Anna Karenina, and Les Miserables. 🙂
Matt – You are good! I still want to read Elizabeth Bowen. I remember you reviewed Death of the Heart right? Oh and with those two chunksters how can you even think of another challenge! ha,ha… You can do it! I need to see if I already have any books that’d qualify for the novella challenge.
So it’s Tuesday now. Did you finish HoaYS? I wonder because I am really looking forward to your review, since I loved that book. In fact, I didn’t refresh this tab, which has been open for about a week, so maybe you’ve reviewed it already! Going to check…
Reading challenges always excite me and I have to rein myself in from joining every one.
A novella challenge intriques me though – I may have to jump on the bandwagon on this one.
