Hi Friends, how are your plans for the holidays coming along? All done with your shopping and meal planning? I still need to do a bit of shopping (online) but I admit I get distracted by things I want for myself! haha… We are still thinking about what we want to do for Christmas and I think the weather is going to be nice so if that’s the case, hopefully some time outdoors.
This whole year has been very exhausting work-wise so I feel like this month I’ve really lost my connection to blogging and reading. But, I do have some time off coming up and I’m so excited. Actually today I was already very energized just organizing things and I feel like with these upcoming days off it will be just what I need to get back into the swing of things. So again, I’m sorry I’ve been quite a bit absent.
Anyway, as I was organizing a few things in my studio/library I was thinking of a project for next year, which I promise I’ll share more about in upcoming blog, but I pulled out my copy of The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore.
I’m pretty sure this was one of my first books in English. I don’t have a lot of my books from my childhood (apartment flooding issue!) but am so glad I have this one. This copy is in near perfect condition too and the illustrations are just so sweet. Had to read it this weekend and reminded me of all the wonderful Christmases I spent with my mom and dad and our family. If I can, I’ll go through my photo albums and share a Christmas photo from my childhood in my next post. Just have to remember!
Alright friends, again, excuse me for my absence around here and blogland. I hope you are all well and staying safe. I look forward to visiting with you soon.
Hope you enjoy your time off and can relax and enjoy yourself. We have no great plans for Christmas. With the uptick in virus cases, we will have to be satisfied with phone and text messages this year. I think this year, more than any other, my husband and I have been thinking about Christmases past.. The year I got Robinson Crusoe when I was in the third grade and my brother got Black Beauty. I was so frustrated that my father, who chose the books, didn’t realize how much I wanted my brother’s book. As it turned out, I loved Robinson Crusoe and I think the book started me on my love for books about survivors and dystopian books. 🙂 Having the time to reflect on childhood Christmases and those of our children (oh, that blasted Barbie Townhouse that had to be assembled) has been nice. Usually, we have been so busy that all we could do was be sure we had everything ready for the big day.
I hope you enjoy your time off, Iliana. I have this week off, and am so looking forward to it. Work has been so stressful and emotionally draining. I really need this break. I love The Night Before Christmas. It’s a childhood favorite. I hope you are able to get outside on Christmas! Have a nice Christmas.
We will have a very quiet Christmas, but I’m hoping the weather stays nice so we can get outside for a walk. Other than that, we’ll open our gifts, play some games, work on the puzzle, and listen to music while a fire burns in the fireplace. Other than the gifts, it will pretty much be like most days. 🙂 Oh, we will also make phone calls to relatives who can’t be with us this year! I hope your holiday is peaceful and that you enjoy your break. Stay well, my friend!
Can’t believe Christmas is just around the corner! I hope you enjoy your time off and get to do the things you enjoy, Iliana. I’ve been slacking in my reading and blogging and I blame it on year end since it feels like I’ve so much to do before the new year arrives, especially preparations for the new school year and everything. Well, I hope you’ve a good week and happy reading! 🙂
I’m pretty sure I owned this in the late 50’s, if not me, then it was my kiddos in late 70’s how cool. I wish I had all of my books as a kid but, I only have (2).
Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year.
