Thank you so much you guys for all the comments on my previous post. I am very happy to report that the insomnia seems to have gone away (keep your fingers crossed). I didn’t get that much rest and relaxation over the week but this weekend I’ve certainly tried to take care of myself by going to yoga, indulging in naps, staying in bed with books and relaxing.
I’ve missed being around the blogosphere but I do think it’s quite good to take a bit of time off and just recharge, you know. Anyway, I finished two books this week, The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier, which I just really loved, and Murder on Waverly Place by Victoria Thompson, which is a mystery series I’ve been following for a while now. More on those two later.
My exciting purchase of the week though was Yoga Nidra: The Meditative Heart of Yoga by Richard Miller. I know I raved about the yoga nidra class I took a couple of weeks ago so I’m hoping to get a lot out of this book and CD. I’ve already started reading it and am learning more about the practice. According to the book, some of the reasons to practice this style include: to induce profound relaxation in your body and mind, eliminate stress, overcome insomnia, overcome anxiety… Oh yes, this sounds perfect!
Anyway, I hope you’ve all been having a great week, and I’m looking forward to catching up this week. Can’t wait to hear about the books you’ve been reading.
We all need a blogging break once in a while. 🙂 I’m glad to hear the insomnia has gone away from you.
I look forward to your reviews on the two books you had read. Hope you have a great week ahead, Iliana. 🙂
I am glad you are sleeping better, Iliana. I agree, sometimes a break can really do us good. I hope you have a great week, Iliana.
I’ve heard that yoga is great for stress relief. I really need to take a class and see what it is all about. I know it is a really good workout too. My boss does Bikram yoga and she says she burns tons of calories doing it. I’m glad you are feeling better and feeling refreshed after your break from the blogosphere.
Later today I’m going to explore our local Yoga Nidra centre after all the things that you and Jenclair have said about it. Let me know how the new book/CD works out and if I find anything useful, I’ll pass it along to you.
Blogging breaks are essential! I can also thoroughly recommend meditation for insomnia. I had it quite badly for a while, and it was the only thing that did make a bit of a difference. I’ve never done yoga, but I’ve heard all kinds of good things about it, too. Take very good care of yourself!
I’ve never done yoga in my life, but I’m told that it solves just about any problem! I’m so glad you are feeling better, and that you are back up and running!
Hope you are continuing to elude insomnia. I wasn’t enchanted with Miller’s book and CD, but I’d borrowed it from a friend and maybe didn’t give the CD enough of a chance. I’ve been using the body scan at night, but I’ve temporarily abandoned the book Yoga Nidra because I left it in my backpack and got distracted with other books. I’m going to order that CD and see if I like it better than Miller’s.
Loved the Chocolate War! It makes such an impact, doesn’t it?
Hope you’re feeling more rested Iliana, take care of yourself!
Glad you are feeling fully recharged after your blogging break. Can’t wait to hear more about The Chocolate War. I have been trying to get that one on Bookmooch.
So glad you had a nice rest and the insomnia has gone away! I should tell my husband about yoga nidra because sleeping and relaxing are sometimes rather elusive for him too.
I’m glad you’re doing better. Glad to have you back!!
Melody – Thank you! I’m glad it’s gone too. And, I finished another book today – woo hoo! Now of course I’m going to fall behind on reviews – haha…
Literary Feline – I definitely need to have those little breaks every once in a while otherwise sometimes the blogosphere as much fun as it is can still get a bit overwhelming you know 🙂
Kathleen – Yoga is wonderful but like with any fitness program you really have to do it quite often to reap all the rewards. I don’t necessarily do it for fitness as I practice hatha yoga (no power yoga for me) but for me it’s all about calming my monkey mind 🙂 I highly recommend it!
Table Talk – You have a local yoga nidra center? Oh how wonderful! The studio where I took the class is very nice but really pricey. I’m just so grateful my gym has a wonderful yoga instructor who actually also teaches at the pricey studio! ha. I hope you’ll enjoy it and do share what you thought about it!
litlove – maybe you’d like yoga nidra as it is very much a meditation focused practice. I had been wanting to try meditation and have only done it once or twice but I’m hoping I can start a regular practice with this CD!
Sandy – Well, maybe I need to do yoga every day to see if it will solve all my problems! haha.. No but seriously, I love it. I’ve been practicing it on and off for about 5 years. This last year though I’ve really gotten much more into it. There are a lot of yoga styles so if you try one and don’t like it, try another.
jenclair – I remember you told me you didn’t love the Miller CD very much. I will let you know how it goes when I give it a whirl. I will also check out the one you mentioned. And, yes, Chocolate War was much more than I expected! Wow.
Joanna – Thank you! I typically run around too much and I think it all got to me so I’m definitely taking it easy 🙂
vivienne – Well, now if only I could find the energy to get my reviews done! haha… But, Chocolate War was so good. I hope you’ll find it on Bookmooch!
Stefanie – Oh yes, share that with him! I find that the days I do yoga, especially if it’s my evening class, I really do feel just more relaxed and of course that makes it easier to fall asleep.
Stephanie – Thank you! It’s good to come back although now of course I’m super behind on blog reading! 🙂
Glad to see you back. Sorry to hear you were suffering from insomnia. I’ve had that happen in the past and it’s not fun. I am bordering on a little break here myself which is needed, I think.
I’m so glad you’re doing better! The yoga nidra book sounds really good — how exciting to be learning about such a great practice.
Tara – Insomnia is the pits isn’t it? and, it’s such a vicious circle too. I’m all about taking blogging breaks here and there. I figure I need to keep it fun.
Dorothy W. – It is exciting. I just found out that Richard Miller will be in Austin but the talk is a bit pricey so probably won’t be able to go. Darn. The book so far is good though.
I’m glad that you are feeling better!
