Hello and happy new year! I hope your year has started off great. Did you get lots of Christmas presents (books of course), travel or just hang out with family?
We had a very quiet Christmas and I really enjoyed having a bit more time off and just being able to read a bit more and catch up with family and friends via email and calls. My husband’s family sent us some goodies from Germany so that was so fun to have some German chocolates and other holiday treats to enjoy.
And, despite reading a bit more (actually my total books read ended up being 42 books) I still had a few books to carry over into the new year and so I didn’t do my traditional “first read of the year” post as I want to finish some of these before adding a new book.
This morning I did finish A Christmas in the Alps by Melody Carlson. Quite predictable but it was an easy and cozy Christmas novella. The other books I’m carrying over are Your Driver is Waiting by Priya Guns, The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon and Dearly by Margaret Atwood.
Did you start off the year with some new reads or are you also carrying over some reads?
Here’s to a year of great books and stories!
Ilana, Happy New Year and glad you had a nice holiday time with some good books and chocolates! Ha! I really want to read The Frozen River this year and actually have the book on my shelf. Soon I hope. I’m going to enjoy reading Elly Griffiths’ Ruth Galloway series again and am on #2. Will probably finish it in the next day or so. I’m not thinking I’ll read this back-to-back, but there are only 15 of them. I really like listening to these mystery series while I am walking or travelling in the car. Especially rereads. That way if I get distracted I haven’t lost the whole plot. LOL
Happy New Year, Iliana! Mmmm, I’ll bet the chocolate from Germany was wonderful. I remember how good it was when I bought some (and coffee) in Heidelberg (eeek, a decade ago!). I just finished a “carry over” book that I began on the 28th. A wonderfully long three-generational family saga. I hope to get my review posted later this week. I received one book for Christmas from my brother — Amy Tan’s The Backyard Bird Chronicles, which I’m reading very intentionally, one entry each day. It’s a lovely book and I’ve been looking up images of a lot of the birds she mentions.
Happy reading!
Happy New Year! It sounds like you had a nice holiday. We had a quiet one too. My mother-in-law and brother-in-law visited, along with my mom for Christmas. I think this was the last trip to California my mother-in-law will be making. Hopefully we can make it to Utah this year sometime, especially since we aren’t sure we want to follow through with a trip to D.C. in the summer like we originally planned. I’ve been wanting to read The Frozen River. I just finished my second book of the year–one of which I started the end of last year and the other being an audiobook. Both were good. I have a book club book I need to finish by Thursday, but I’m not sure I will be able to. I hope you have a great week!
