Usually we have our regular bookstore outings on Friday or Saturday night but this weekend we decided to have breakfast at the bookstore. So armed with tons of magazines, books, cookies, a chocolate drink for my husband and coffee for me we found a table and hung out all morning at the bookstore. It was a wonderful way to start the weekend.
I didn’t buy any books but I finally bought Art Journaling a publication of Stampington & Company. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve picked up this magazine, oohed & aahed over it, and finally my husband told me I needed to just get it. I think I need to listen to him more often. heh.
But, I am glad I got it. It’s just one of those magazines I am sure I’ll turn to time and again for when I need a bit of inspiration.
The rest of the weekend we spent going out with friends, finally watching Slumdog Millionaire and of course catching up on my reading. I’ve got reviews coming up on some good books so stay tuned. Now, how about you, did peek into a bookstore this weekend? What did you get?
I went on a road trip yesterday to see a high school friend I hadn’t seen since 1988!!! She was vacationing in southern Florida, so we met halfway and went shopping and lunched. What fun (not to mention the three hours of audio tape I got while driving!). Anyway, I brought my Barnes & Noble gift card, prepared for book shopping, but I struck out. Like I need more books!
Hi Iliana,
I can’t believe you went to a bookstore and didn’t buy any books! 🙂 I’ve supposed to avoid bookstores for a while, since I went a tad overboard the last couple of weeks. Thankfully I still have amazon! 🙂
What did you think of Slumdog Millionaire? I thought it was fantastic.
I need to get to a book store more often. I’ve never seen that journal. Now I want one! It looks beautiful. Closest book store is an hour away, need to figure a way to get there.
Sounds like a lovely way to spend part of your weekend.
Sounds like a lovely weekend and what a perfect way to start the day, in a bookstore!
Fun, yummy breakfast! And, you are right, listen to your hubby. The journaling mag looks fun.
I had breakfast at a small locally owned restaurant with my parents and then took them to run errands. While they were shopping, I sat down, crocheted and caught up on the cell phone with some friends.
I sat outside and enjoyed the cool weather.
No bookstore hopping this week. Maybe another week….
Love those chocolate-y bookstore drinks! We didn’t make it to a single one this weekend (finals time), but we did quickly hit the library. 🙂
We also still need to see Slumdog Millionaire. Did you like it?
I’ve never been one to eat breakfast out much (I’m pretty much non-functional before breakfast) but your morning sounds so relaxing!
No trips to the bookstore for me this weekend, but I’m hoping to make a stop at my favorite bookstore tomorrow. It’s been too long since I’ve bought books.
Sandy – How fun! I bet what with all the talking & catching up it was hard to do much really. I love spending time with my girlfriends and just wish we could do more get togethers more often. So anyway, now you have that B&N card burning a hole in your pocket right? 🙂
Joanna – I know, I was a good bookgirl 🙂 I liked Slumdog a lot although I can’t say I loved it. I think I may have known a bit too much about the story but it was still a movie I’m glad I finally watched.
Melanie – I kept putting off buying the magazine but then I found out it was sold out on the Stampington site and I thought I’d better get it because I’d hate to miss it. And, really, every time I’d go into the bookstore I’d pick it up! ha. It’s got a lot of great tips on journaling from supplies to how to prepare a page.
aka Nik – It was. Of course I get spoiled and expect every weekend to be the same 🙂
Stefanie – I don’t know why we don’t do this more often. This is probably the only time I’m not a cranky morning person – haha!
Isabel – I think you’d like the mag a lot so check it out! Glad you had a nice weekend with your parents. Did you have a lot of other work going on? I think you said you were going to.
Tiffany – Those are delicious aren’t they! I placed one book on hold so I’ll probably be going to the library soon. We did enjoy Slumdog but I guess the problem with watching after all the brouhaha is that you know too much! 🙂
Ruth – I’m not a breakfast person either and well I guess cookies don’t really count as breakfast but it was a day to be spoiled 🙂 Have fun at the bookstore – looking forward to hearing about your loot!
Art Journaling mag looks great. I just looked on the site and saw that it was sold out. Oh well. I’ll wait for the next issue. Having breakfast at the bookstore sounds like a great idea. I’ve never done that before. Maybe I’ll do it this week. I can’t wait to read your reviews.
Breakfast at the bookstore is one of my favorite things to do on the weekend. Then again, I don’t mind lunch and dinner there either;-) Have a good week.
I haven’t go to any bookstore this week yet, but I’m going to coming Thursday since a bookstore near my workplace has a 20% off for members and you bet I’m not going to miss that! ;P
Breakfast at the bookstore sounds nice to me!!! 🙂
Oh, that sounds like a dreamy morning! I went to Garrison Keillor’s bookstore but didn’t buy anything!
Vasilly – Yes, it sold out which is probably also what prompted me to get it now rather than keep waiting 🙂 You should go out this week and while you enjoy the bookstore setting you can catch up on your reading!
Kristy – Ha,ha.. so true right? I remember I used to work near a bookstore and at least once a week I’d go there for lunch. Peace and calm away from the office. Granted it sort of made it hard to go back to work! 🙂
Melody – Oh how fun! You’ll have to post on all the goodies I’m sure you will find. Do you have a book in mind you are looking for?
Tara – It really is nice. I need to do that more often! And, Garrison Keillor has a bookstore?! How cool. Well, I’m sure you have lots of books waiting for you at home anyway right? 🙂
Oh, you bet I’ve lots in mind but my mind is blank now because I just can’t remember the titles! I’ll have to see and grab it when the day arrives! ;P
i spent my saturday afternoon at bookstore and this time i really tried hard not to buy anything, still i got some “cook-books” for my sister as she is newly married 🙂
And by the way did you like Slumdog Millionaire? I liked its flow quite much…
Hope you are having a nice week as well as your weekend:)
I couldn’t resist responding to your query about visiting book stores over the weekend. Bean Books just recently opened its doors in the city where I live- so kids and husband in tow, we went to check it out. It’s a small space, hand-picked fiction, a comfortable corner to sit in and a selection of coffee and teas. I am a huge fan of little book stores (okay I’m a huge fan of book stores in general!) I desperately want this little gem to survive and thrive…and will certainly do my part to help it out. My purchase: The Secret of Lost Things by Sheridan Hay
Melody – Ha, that happens to me at library book sales. Then I freak out that I’ll end up buying books I already have! haha.. Hope you have fun!
iselldreams – Ah see, then those books don’t count as they weren’t for you 🙂
Slumdog was good and I did like the way it was presented. I really think the only reason I didn’t love it was because I knew way too much about it. Take care!
christie – Bean Books sounds so cute! I did read about your outing to it. I was having quite a bit of internet issues though so didn’t stop long enough to comment but hope you’ll go back again and yes, keeping fingers crossed that an indie survives! Hope you like Secret of Lost Things!
breakfast at the bookstore…I think my husband would be bored out of his tree! LOL
I always peek into the bookstore, particularly Borders! 🙂
Ooh, how was Slumdog Millionaire? I thought it was romantic in a mushy kind of way and Dev Patel melts my heart.
Breakfast at the bookstore – could there be a better way to start the day? 😀
