It’s been a while since I ordered any new books but the other day I received an email from Borders about having some Borders Bucks and I thought, well, I can’t go to the stores anymore as we don’t have any here in Austin but I can place an order.
So I got The Return by Victoria Hislop which takes place during the Spanish Civil War and Eight White Nights by Andre Aciman which sounds like a quite wonderful love story. Has anyone read these?
I’m actually still waiting for another book, Cakes and Ale by W. Somerset Maugham as that’s the June reading selection for the Slaves of Golconda. I’ve only read Of Human Bondage by Maugham many years ago but I remember really liking that book a lot so I have high hopes for this one.
What else, oh yes, I finished A Lesson In Secrets by Jacqueline Winspear and I really enjoyed the latest Maisie book with one exception but I’ll go into that later when I write more about it. Of course the bummer is that now I have to wait a whole other year for another Maisie book.
Now it’s off to go read my new book. I’ll tell you more about it tomorrow.
You’ve got to love getting a box of books!
I loved The Island by Victoria Hislop. She has another one coming out this summer. Not sure what it is called though.
It’s like Christmas in May! So exciting. So these Maisie Dobbs are that good huh?
Nothing like a box of books in the mail!
I haven’t read Cakes and Ale, yet, either. But, I do have a copy around here, somewhere (the story of my life – “I have a copy, but haven’t read it”). I thought Of Human Bondage was amazing. Love the old B & W movie, too.
I just finished The Painted Veil by Maugham and it was so beautiful. I haven’t heard anything about Cakes and Ale but I hope you enjoy!
