I hope you’ve all had a happy weekend (Happy 4th for those of you in the States!). Ours involved a lot of relaxing, a trail walk and of course preparing with a pre-weekend trip to the library. I don’t know what it is but every time the library is going to be closed for a holiday I act like I have to go get more books. Like I’m somehow going to run out of books to read. Ha.
Oh and yes, I know I had talked about being on a library ban but those usually only last a couple of months. So I’m back to putting books on hold and checking out books. So these are the books from two recent library visits.
The three books on the bottom of the pile are graphic novels. I haven’t read but one graphic novel this year so when I saw a mention of these in a newsletter I get I thought it would be fun to check some of them out. Of course I put them on hold and they all came in at once.
I have The Nao of Brown by Glyn Dillon, Daytripper by Fabion Moon and Gabriel Ba and Shortcomings by Adrian Tomine. Have you read any of these?
The rest include The Complete Poetry by Maya Angelou, Broken Monsters by Lauren Beukes, Hugo & Rose by Bridget Foley and Malice by Keigo Higashino. So poetry, fiction and crime. Gotta love the variety.
Not pictured because I left the book in my bedroom is Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King. That’s the one I’ve started reading as it’s for my mystery book group. It’s been ages since I’ve read a Stephen King book but just reading the first couple of chapters feels very familiar.
Let me know if you’ve read some of these and what you thought. I’m in the middle of a couple of books right now so I’ll tell you more about those soon. Hope you have a great week ahead!
I haven’t read any of these books yet, but I did read positive things about Daytripper. I hope you enjoy your reads. Have a good week.
I always overdo it when faced with a long weekend–as if I am going to have SO much extra time and will spend it reading (wishful thinking!). Sounds like a nice holiday weekend! I have heard good things about Keigo Higashino–must give him a try sometime. I have not been using the library much this year in an effort to read more of my own books, but I do have a few on the hold shelf that have finally come up for check out–now must try and decide whether I (still) really want to read them and so will go and check them out…. (I have too many books started so am trying to be selective–easier said than done!).
That is quite a variety! I’m curious about , Broken Monsters . It sounds like you had a nice weekend. I bet the library was glad to see you again. 😉
I HAVE to read Daytripper and Shortcomings. Hope you enjoy them – you will have to tell me what you think of those.
I totally get borrowing a lot of library books when they are closed for a day. I do that too, some times. 🙂
Wow, seems like you’ve a lovely loot there! I’ve Broken Monsters in my pile and I’m looking forward to reading it soon. Sounds both compelling and scary!
Enjoy your books! 🙂
What a nice variety! My husband read Mr. Mercedes and liked it pretty well.
Maya Angelou. <3
On another note, I was going through some of your old posts and saw your comment about 11 years of blogging! I guess maybe comments are disabled on older posts, but I did want to say happy bloggiversary. Also the Art Journaling retreat sounds like so much fun! And hope your mother-in-law is doing better.
I just went to the library and stocked up on a ton of books as well. Now just to find the time to actually post about all of them 🙂 I haven’t read any of these but I will be looking forward to your thoughts. Enjoy!
