I went to Half Price Books hoping to find a book light as mine is starting to wear down (and it’s not the batteries) but they didn’t have any. I wasn’t about to let this be a wasted trip to the bookstore though so I wandered around for a while and struck gold when I came upon the clearance section. I bought three books for $1 each.
- A Poisoned Season by Tasha Alexander. Ok, I still haven’t read the first one even though I have it but I’ve heard so many good reviews and I am planning to read it. I figured I might as well as be prepared and have the sequel in hand.
- Why Mermaids Sing by C.S. Harris. This is the third in the Sebastian St. Cyr series. I haven’t read the second book but I really liked the first one and am hoping this will turn out to be another series I follow. So again, I just wanted to be prepared. Ha.
- Nectar From A Stone by Jane Guill. It is 1351 in Wales, a country subjugated by England, beaten down by superstition, war, and illness. Elise, prone to strange visions and the sole survivor of a plague-ravaged family, has fled her village for distant Conwy with her servant Annora, running from a murder she was forced to commit in self-defense.
So how about you – did you do any book shopping this weekend?
Oh and a very important note. We have selections up for the next Slaves of Golconda reading discussion!

I didn’t do any book shopping this weekend, but it looks like you got some great finds!
I bought a book during my lunchbreak earlier. Godmother by Carolyn Turgeon… which is a re-telling story of Cinderella. 😉
I hope you’ve a great week ahead, Iliana!
1351 in Wales!! I want Nectar from a Stone for that alone 😛
Oooh I just love an unexpected bargain! Must’ve made your day 🙂
I think I’m in shock that you almost left with nothing! I thought I was going to have to buy a new suitcase when you took me to the Half Price Bookstore! Have still not found anywhere like it over here!
Nectar From A Stone sounds wonderful.
You can’t go wrong with books for a dollar! And I’m with Nymeth, Nectar from a Stone sounds great!
I didn’t do any book shopping on the weekend but I did order a few books last week, some of which should hopefully arrive this week.
Oh, I wish there was a Half Price Books close to me (or maybe it’s better that there’s not).
I bought Pride and Prejudice and Zombies as well as The Monsters of Templeton this weekend. Unfortunately, I didn’t buy them for a dollar each!
Awesome! I found a book at the goodwill store that I had been searching for – it’s such a pleasure when you find unexpected delights and at bargain prices.
What good deals you found! I’d like to find another booklight, one that doesn’t weigh quite so much with a tiny battery. My current one takes 4 AAs. Let us know if you find one that works well!
No book shopping this weekend but I did stock up at the library!! Great finds for a $1.00 how can you resist?
I actually bought a book because of one of your reviews. Its called ‘Cocaine Blues’ starring the glamorous female sleuth Phryne Fisher. Enjoyed it very much particularly since it’s set in the city where I live. I could visualise the streets, although I wasn’t around in the 1920’s when the book is set!
We went to the bookstore but I didn’t buy anything, just added to my want list lol!
Nectar from a Stone sounds very interesting. My friend who hardly reads is reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies! I guess that must be quite good or he won’t even picked it up! 🙂
Amy – You were good then 🙂 I had been curving my book shopping but I couldn’t pass these up!
Melody – This is too funny but I recently got a book with Godmother as it’s title too! It’s not the same one you mentioned but we were on the same track sort of 🙂
Nymeth – Sounds like a good enough reason right 🙂
Annie – Absolutely! I was prepared to be all bent out of shape as I didn’t get my book light but the book bargains made up for it 🙂
Claire – Haha! I know, right. I’ve been trying to be a bit of more conscious of all my book shopping but don’t worry I’m sure I’ll go overboard on my next bookstore outing 🙂
tanabata – Oh book ordering is fun because at least that way you know to expect something other than bills in the mail! haha… The Nectar from the Stone book also has such a pretty cover. It lured me in!
Lisa – Yea, mine is less than a mile from my place. It’s not a good thing sometimes 🙂
jess – I keep hearing really good things about both of those books so I hope you enjoy them. I’ll have to check on your reviews!
Care – Ooh, you just reminded me that I have a Goodwill nearby too. I never check there but maybe I should 🙂
Tara – I’ll keep you posted for sure! My book light doesn’t weigh anything but the bulb is flickering and I was never too happy with the light. The other book light I had I broke and I have another one somewhere but I think it got lost in the move!
Staci – Stocking up at the library is the next best thing! I need to go drop off some books so I’m sure I’ll pick up a little book here or there 🙂
Ruby – Oh yay. I hope you enjoy it. I thought it was such a good story and different from a lot of other mysteries. I can’t believe I haven’t picked up another of the books but I still plan to. You’ll have to keep in touch and let me know what you thought!
Ladytink – I do that too! My poor wishlist is out of control 🙂
Matthew – See, I’m getting all interested in that book now! Which normally I don’t think I would as the cover is a bit unnerving 🙂 Are you going to give it a try?
Yes Iliana..I’m afraid I broke down and visited a bookstore. I have been trying to stay clear for a while. I walked out with Ann Rice’s The Witching Hour and a copy of Lincoln by Harold Holtzer (Hardcover) for 5.99. That was a great fine.
You found some interesting buys for 1.00. 🙂

Don’t you just love those $1 bargains?!? It has been a while since I have bought any books. I have been checking them out from the library lately. However, last weekend I did a big splurge on magazines!
You picked up some interesting books. I haven’t been book shopping in ages. I’m staying away since I already have too many books, but I know avoidance won’t work for long. 😉
I really like Tasha Alexander–I hope you enjoy the books when you get to them, too. And I’m very curious to hear what you think of Nectar from a Stone–I looked at that book so many times at the bookstore–undecided. Nice to find a cheap copy, too!
How come every time I visit your site I see a list of books I’ve never heard of before??? 🙂 And you’re so lucky to have this store nearby! I’m going book shopping tomorrow – again! 🙂
How convenient that HPB didn’t have a booklight but of course you couldn’t waste the trip 😉 Don’t you just love finding books on the clearance shelves?
Man, is the clearance section at Half Price Books ever dangerous! You’re lucky to have come away with only three titles; I rarely make it out of there with less than ten. It’s a good thing I live hours and hours away from the closest HPB, or my TBR would be even more out of control.
no bookstore shopping for me, but those look like some good finds…happy reading.
