I met up with one of my friends today at Barnes & Noble and we had a good time catching up. Aside from filling in each other on the latest, we talked about books non-stop. Gotta love that kind of talk. Some of the topics that came up were best reads so far this year, Archer City Texas, Miss Pettigrew and Oprah’s book club.
We always swap books too and my friend gave me She Got Up Off the Couch by Haven Kimmel. I loved Zippy so I can’t wait to see what happened next.
Of course I did a bit of book browsing too and found two books I quickly added to my wish list. First there is The Cruelest Month by Louise Penny. Inspector Gamache is a fantastic character. This is the third in the Three Pines series and I can’t wait to read it. The other book was The Dark Lantern by Gerri Brightwell which is a Victorian thriller. You know how much I love those.
Anyway, I feel like I’ve been away from my computer quite a bit so I need to catch up on what everyone’s been reading. I have started several books so I’ll have to tell you about those too but I’ll save that post for tomorrow.
Have a nice weekend reading, but go out if the weather is nice.
Soon, the blistering summer will be upon you and you won’t have a choice but to stay inside reading! (Or maybe, the predicted $4.00/gallon gas will make you stay inside.)
I’m reading Miss Pettigrew right now since I’m planning on seeing the film next week. It’s really something! So funny, witty, and ahead of its time. No wonder her publisher didn’t want it. So risque!
I want to see and read Miss Pettigrew as well. I didn’t even know it was a book until I saw it on a blog somewhere. There are too many books in the world (and in my house) and I don’t see getting to this one before I see it (if I even get that chance.)
Isabel – Today is turning out to be beautiful. I’m going to try and go to the library and sit outside in their courtyard. Don’t remind me about the blistering heat 🙂
Tara – I know, I can’t believe about some of the stuff she wrote about. I didn’t expect that at all so it was a bit of shock. I really want to see the film now. I finally saw a preview and it looks cute although I already spotted something that’s totally different from the book 😉
Megan – It’s such a sweet story. I do highly recommend it. I had the book sitting on my shelves for probably two years before I finally got to it so I totally know what you mean! 🙂
The Inspector Gamache novel looks like a great series. I must see if I can get the first book (Still Life).
I just finished Blind Justice which is set in 18th century London. Great read !
I am about to start, Death is now my neighbour by Colin Dexter.
Hope you have a great weekend.
Gavin – Inspector Gamache is a great character. He sort of reminds me of Hercule Poirot. Blind Justice… I will have to look for that as you know I’m a fan of those historicals. I look forward to your review on it!
Some more great possibilities here, and Miss Pettigrew had already piqued my interest. Dark Lantern falls into one of my favorite categories, so I hope I can locate a copy at the library.
Looks like you are doing some good reading this weekend. I always think I should bring a notebook or use my camera phone to take pictures of all the books I find at the bookstore.
HAve a great weekend.
jenclair – Miss Pettigrew is just charming. I hope you do read the book! I’m going to try and find Dark Lantern at my library too 🙂
Nancy – I never leave the house without a notebook – ever! 🙂 Hope you are having a fabulous weekend!
