I haven’t posted a Book Loot post in a while but that’s because I’ve been a very good Bookgirl and have been curbing my spending sprees. Well, I was moving and just the thought of packing one more book was exhausting!
Anyway I had a coupon from Half Price Books and spent a very good afternoon there the other day. Here’s what I got and only spent $20:
- The Watchman by Robert Crais. This isn’t one of my typical reads but one of my best friends tells me this is a fast paced book and I haven’t read any Crais before so this should be a good place to start.
- The Thief Taker by Janet Gleeson. 18th Century London. You know this goes on my list. I’ve read one of her previous books and would like to see how this one turns out.
- Silent in the Sanctuary by Deanna Raybourn. I loved Silent in the Grave and can’t wait to start this one.
- High Marks for Murder by Rebecca Kent. I almost bought this the other day and am so glad I found it at HPB. What luck!
- Knowledge of Water by Sarah Smith. Another historical but this one is set in Paris. Oh, la, la…
- A Few Green Leaves by Barbara Pym. It’s a Pym book… enough said.
- Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen. I’ve always liked the cover of this book and I’ve read some good reviews about this book recently from some of you bloggy friends. Couldn’t resist adding it to my basket.
- The Adventures of the Mind from the Saturday Evening Post. This is an old book that I’m not planning to read but instead use for an altered book project.
And, guess what? I just got some more coupons from Half Price Books to be used next week. Yay.
What about you? Bought some good books lately?

What a great deal, Iliana! I wouldn’t pass this up if I were you too! 😀
I too have read some great reviews about Garden Spells and I’ll probably buy this during my next visit to the bookstore. And I love the bookcover too; it’s very eye-catching!
Though I’ve not read Into the Woods by Tana French, I bought her next book The Likeness last week! 😉
There is NOTHING like moving to make you regret your book collection. I had that recently. Of course, once the books are all packed up I think….gee, I have room for more! 🙂
Sounds like you got some great finds!
Wow, you got a lot for your money! I only got three on my shopping spree and I used up my half of the $100 gift card.
I think I need to find a better place to shop.
You should google the cover of the European version of GARDEN SPELLS. It’s sparkly and pretty.
I just bought Garden Spells as well – the glittery European edition. 🙂
And I just ordered a whole bunch of books from Amazon – I’ve given myself a monthly limit because I’m unable to quit completely!
We missed you at our murder mystery book group last night, Ili. We discussed The Watchman by Robert Crais and all but one person enjoyed the book! I know you will like it a lot. I didn’t realize that Crais also has an Elvis Cole series that actually was done before the Joe Pike series. There were a lot of positive comments about that series last night as well. Now I’m going to have to check into that series, it really sounds like my kind of read. I mentioned to a few people that you will be at our next book group and they were very excited to hear that. 🙂
Lot’s of good books on your list. Something about moving that reminds us of why we stay put to begin with! hahaha…..
I recently bought a Photoshop book on layering and masks to help me work on more digital montage work. I know, such a geek. I also just ordered an older novel by Christina Baker Kline – Desire Lines. There are still plenty on the list to purchase later!
Hey, nice haul! The 18C book sounds interesting …
Lots of goodies!! I just received some coupons via email from HPB. I really need to go back (or maybe not as the case may be). I just ordered a few books with a couple of gift cards. One is The Suspicions of Mr Whicher–I decided to be bad and buy it rather than wait for a library copy.
An actual, walled-and-ceiling’ed store that sells books? And several for $20?
I don’t believe you. I’ll have to look it up on Amazon.
**pout** I want some, too, now!
I have been very good lately….but I have won some books from blogs!!! I have been trying to read my ARCs…I don’t want them to get any more out of hand than they are!!:)
looks like you had tons of fun though!
You did well!!! I got some Half Price Books coupons too, yeah!!!
I did indeed get a few good books lately. I bought Haruki Murakami’s short story book After the Quake on Thursday and had it read by Friday (review up now) and went and purchased his newest short story book Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman on Monday. I am trying hard to fight the urge to go pick up After Dark right now as it sounds so good I cannot wait to read it.
I was just talking about the hunger and lust for books that have afflicted half my life! I simply can’t resist buying books at the bookstore even I have an awaiting tower at home. It’s like a thirst. I’ve been going on a roll on books about books. 🙂
Well, you probably know I loved Garden Spells, right? Also, I like Robert Crais. His books have gotten darker, in recent years, but he’s one of the rare mystery authors I didn’t give up on as I became weary of mysteries and will still happily read.
Melody – It has a pretty cover doesn’t it? I can’t wait ’til you read In the Woods. I hope you enjoy it!
Amy – Isn’t that the truth! I am eager to keep buying but I know next move will have to do some more weeding of the books 🙂
Nicole – I love Half Price Books. The books are always half price or if you are lucky you can get some real finds in their clearance section!
nik – Ooh, I’ll have to check that out!
joanna – Ok, you and Nik are making me very curious about the european edition 🙂 I tried going on a book break and it’s too hard. I curb my spending but still spend!
Shadan – It’ll be great to see you and the rest of the gang at the next book group meeting! Now, I just need to go find the book – ha,ha…
Christine – Oh and those are the expensive books! I know when I buy a book I don’t feel so guilty cause Michael’s books are always so much more expensive than mine! ha,ha…
Dorothy W. – I have more coupons for next week but I plan to go to a different HPB and see what treasures I can find there!
Danielle – Ooh, what books is that? I like the title so I’ll have to check it out. You know, at the HPB in Dallas I would always find Virago titles but I can’t seem to find any in Austin. That’s why I need to go to a different HPB store in Austin and see what they have. It’s a research trip 🙂
Pacze Moj – You must visit a Half Price Books store. It’s the best!
Jordan – 🙂
bethany canfield – Oh the arcs always make me feel a bit guilty. I do want to read them of course but I try to alternate books and that way I make headway into all the stacks!
Carl V. – Aren’t the coupons the best! I can’t wait to read your review on the Murakami book. That’s one I plan to read this year for a challenge!
Matt – I have shelves of unread books and it still doesn’t stop me from buying books. I know what you mean. It’s a beautiful madness isn’t it!
Nancy, aka Bookfool – Yes! I remember reading your review on Garden Spells. You read it for Maggie’s challenge right? It just sounds like such a good read. I’m excited about the Crais book too.
Wow — only twenty dollars?? You got a great deal!
Nice finds! I got those coupons too. I’m not sure I will be able to resist the call of HPB.
You got some great deals if all of that was $20! wow!
I keep seeing reviews for Garden Spells and I’m starting to not want to resist!
I wish we had a HPB. I’ve never been in one, but I bet it would be dangerous to my wallet.
So, my baby!
