Went to my first book group meeting of the year tonight and what a good time it was. The group discussed A Thousand Bones by P.J. Parrish (click on title for my review) and the discussion was quite spirited as there were those who really liked the book and those (me included) who weren’t as wowed by it. Funny enough, we all agreed that it was one of our better discussions as opposed to when we all like the book.
A Thousand Bones is also my first choice in the First in a Series reading challenge so yay, one book down! I’ve got another book group meeting tomorrow night so I’ll let you know how that one goes.
In the meantime have you guys seen the Sorted Books Project? Very fun stuff to do with books and makes me want to re-arrange my shelves.
And, last but not least there’s a new issue of Estella’s Revenge. Go check it out!
It seems like really good book club discussions tend to be about books that not everyone agrees on! I love the book sorting project link–how cool! Have fun at your book group–I know you belong to several–do they all meet at bookstores?
You always find the coolest sites.
Yes, I find that books that are either loved or hated make for the best discussions. People have to defend their positions.
That sorted book prjocet is cool. And I agree with the others, I find that in a book g roup discussion is always best when some love the book and some hate it.
My first book club meeting this year is on Thursday to discuss The Shadow of the Wind. I always look forward to our monthly evening discussing books!
Hi Bookgirl,
Glad your group enjoyed talking about our book — and I’m even more happy that it engendered differences of opinion. When a book tries to be all things to all people, well, I think something is missing. Best wishes and good reading!
Danielle – Absolutely. When we all like the group the discussion seems to be over quicker too and we spend more time talking about our next book! Yes, my book groups meet at bookstores so I always get there a bit earlier to browse around 🙂
Isabel – heh. I agree. It’s fun to hear the different viewpoints too because I’ve been known to change my mind about a book after someone brings up a good point! Or at least, I’ll think of the book a bit differently.
Stefanie – I know, I want to try and re-arrange my books and take some pictures. Hmm, maybe I’ll play around with that this weekend 🙂
Stephanie – Oh have fun! We discussed Shadow last year I think and it was one of those that everyone loved so not much discussion. ha,ha.
PJ Parrish – Thank you for stopping by. And, I want to let you know that you have tons of fans in our book group. Most members said they’d love to read your other series too! Your story really has generated one of the best discussions we’ve had in a long time.
Oooh, Estella’s Revenge!
A book group meeting tonight and one yesterday? How many book groups do you have? I used to have one I loved so much in my old town, but when we moved here, I didn’t manage to find a new one. I was going to start my own, but what if it’s a bad group you don’t like, and you can’t quit because you’re the founder? I’m happy to just have my online book buddies for now. 🙂
Dew – Just two book groups but because they do meet back-to-back I always feel like I’m running around a lot with the book groups. I’ve belonged to both for a long time now so that’s great but I have quit a couple of groups over the years. You are right, if you start it you can’t quit it 🙂
