We kicked off our year with an artsy day by going to the Blanton Museum of Art to see the Turner to Monet exhibit. It was the last day of the exhibit so it was a bit crowded but still got to see some beautiful art, I especially liked this painting by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres.
Every time I see an art exhibit, whether it’s the Masters, contemporary art or even a up and coming local artist, I get so excited about art. It sparks in me a need to create.
Which is what I did when I came home. I sewed some signatures for some new books. In my last post I mentioned I had some plans for the studio. It’s simple really, I just want to add more variety in my shop by adding more sketchbooks and I want to do another craft show.
Also, I’ve thought about the rewards I find in journaling. I think a lot of people like the idea of journaling but don’t know where to start and/or fall in a rut. That happens to me too. I think no matter how long we’ve been journaling sometimes you need some kind of jumpstart to the process.
With that in mind, I’ve decided to share a weekly (hopefully) journal prompt/tip idea. If you’ve been wanting to start journaling or need to dust off your journal visit me on my Fan Page. I’ll try to have the prompts on the weekends. And, don’t worry I won’t be doing hourly/daily notices so I hope you’ll become a fan. You don’t need to turn in anything, you just wander over there when you get a chance and try what works for you.
To those of you who are willing to jump into journaling this year, whether it’s your first time or you are a seasoned journaler, let me know and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a journal (of your choice from my shop) and an art pack. See, you’ll be on your way to journaling in no time. I’ll announce the winner on Friday.
I would love to start a new journal for the new year. I’m hoping this one is significantly better than the last.
I use to journal every day and had boxes of journals that I had through the years. I haven’t done any journaling in the last few years but would like to think about starting again.
I’d love to start journaling again this year, now that I have a new baby girl. I want to document all the first we experience together.
I don’t know anything about journaling though would love to know 🙂
I am an avid journaler but I do not have a facebook account. Is there a way to see your prompts without joining facebook?
I have been art journaling and want to get more into it this year. It’s one of my favorite past times.
I started journaling again last year, and kept it up fairly regularly. I’d love some prompts to help this year. I’ve got my new Moleskine ready to go, it’s just hard to make the first mark.
I am intrigued by journalling. As you know I scrapbook, but I think journalling is quite different. I may look into how to do this properly.
Hi Everyone – So glad to see so many of you wanting to join me for a journal journey. I think it’ll be fun. Juliann – I don’t think you need to join facebook at all. You can look at my page can’t you? Unfortunately I’m fairly new to FB so I’m not sure. I’ll try to check into that.
I love your journals and I really would like to start journaling, so this sounds like a fantastic idea to me! And loads of fun. I can’t wait to see where you take us! 🙂
Awesome how art can inspire you to create 🙂
I’m so bad with journaling. I have a few journals actually with just a few entires in each.
I can’t wait to see more of your creations. I journal off and on but have dropped off in recent years because of time.
I, too, feel creative after seeing something creative or visiting a museum or gallery. My outlet is photography, and you’ve made me realize I need to pull out my camera and take more photos. I love it, so why not?
I had no idea you had a FB fan page. I’ve been journaling off and on for years. Right now it’s on and it feels so good! I would love to be entered in the drawing. I can’t wait to see your prompts.
I used to love journaling but I don’t write by hand, anymore. My poor little hands are all out of shape and get cramped in nothing flat. I love your journals, though. Wish there were classes on how to make them in my area!
That’s so weird! Your beautiful journals arrived yesterday and I was just thinking that I have no idea where to start… I have a book on journaling, but I don’t want things to be that formal right now. I’m going off to your fan page right now! 🙂
I think about journaling all the time. I haven’t journaled since I got married as it seems I mostly only journaled about the “bad things” that I needed to try to work out. I’ve been wanting to journal for the baby but I’m overwhelmed–do I start at the beginning of pregnancy or just pick up in the middle? 😉
Look forward to seeing your prompts! Sounds like a really fun project, Iliana!
Did I put my name in for the draw?
I was able to see your fan page so I will be checking back for those journal prompts.
thanks
I’d like to enter – I always have good intentions with journaling and then just let it fall apart. I need inspiration!
I really need to keep up with my journaling…”diary style” and just writing in general. I haven’t written anything significant in forever! I’ll definitely check out your writing prompts!
Juliann – Glad you were able to see the fan page without having to log on or anything. And, yep, I’ve got your name in the drawing!
Anbolyn – I know, I’m that way too sometimes so believe me the prompts are going to be for me as well!
Sara – Yay, hope they’ll help you!
Journaling helps me retain what has happened to my life without rereading my entries. Not that I don’t sometimes. I do like to draw so those visual sketches also bring me back to that particular mood I was in that day. It is also a good way to end or start the day and recap what is happening. Self analysis in a way. I feel more grounded after journaling. So anyway I love it.
This might just be the kick-start that I need to be a faithful journaler!
