I hope you all had a great weekend. Did you do anything fun?
It was a quiet one for me but I was able to work a bit in my studio, take care of some errands and start a couple of new books. I know, I said I wanted to focus on finishing some books but the lure of a new story is too much sometimes.
So I dove into some poetry by Langston Hughes. Oh my goodness, why have I never read more than one or two of his poems? Some have been incredibly moving and others make me want to read them out loud, fast and loud. They make me feel like they are meant to be performed. Like this one for example:
“Love is like whiskey,
Love is like red, red wine.
Love is like whiskey,
Like sweet red wine.
If you want to be happy
You got to love all the time.”
From Lament Over Love
And, for something completely different I picked up The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty. What a juicy read. I feel like I’m reading a telenovela as the story is filled with secrets, affairs, fake smiles and grudges. Oh so scandalous and readable.
Time to get back to the books but before I forget, in case you need some new books for your eReader, check out She Writes Press spring sale – lots of books for 99cents!
I really liked THE HUSBAND’S SECRET. As you say, secrets abound. It was certainly a cool, rainy weekend. Good for the wildflowers.
I peeked at the She Writes sale but I have never heard of any of the books. So, I didn’t get anything. I am sure there are good ones, but too many choices. lol
I read this several years ago and really liked it. It was an ARC that arrived in the mail, and I almost dismissed it as chic lit, but the first page pulled me in!
Hughes is great. I really enjoy his work but have only ever read random selections. One of these days I’ll read a whole collection! Enjoy!
Now I’ve to check out The Husband’s Secret; sounds like a compelling read!
Hope you’ve a great day, Iliana! 🙂
