I just saw that Malice Domestic has announced the list of nominees for the 2007 Agatha Awards. Here are some of the mysteries nominated:
Best First Novel:
Consigned to Death by Jane Cleland
Feint of Art by Hailey Lind
Murder on the Rocks by Karen MacInerney
The Chef Who Died Sauteing by Honora Finkelstein
The Heat of the Moon by Sandra Parshall
Best Novel:
All Mortal Flesh by Julia Spencer-Fleming
Messenger of Truth by Jacqueline Winspear
The Saddlemaker’s Wife by Earlene Fowler
The Virgin of Small Plains by Nancy Pickard
Why Casey Had to Die by L.C. Hayden
I’ve only read Messenger of Truth and really enjoyed that one, after all it’s a Maisie Dobbs book. You can read the full list of nominees here.
In honor of the awards, and most importantly that Our Coffee Rings has chosen an Agatha Christie novel for the March discussion, today I started reading Murder on the Orient Express. So far so good but that Mrs. Hubbard is really getting on my nerves. This is only my second Agatha mystery. How about you? Are you an Agatha Christie fan? If so, which books are your favorites?
I have read the 3 previous Winspear novels and look forward to this one.
The Virgin of the Small Plains is also on the list for the Edgar Awards; I’m amazed.
I read most of A. Christie’s books as a teen (a long, long time ago!), and my favorite was Hercule Poirot’s Christmas. Murder on the Orient-Express is also very good, have you seen the movie?
My favorites are the Miss Marples. 🙂 I’ve enjoyed all of them, but I guess my favorite would be Sleeping Murder. It’s a close call, though.
Jenclair – I’m eagerly awaiting the fourth Maisie Dobbs. I have to say out of all the nominees the Virgin of Small Plains is the one that sounds most interesting to me.
Genevieve – No, I’ve never seen the movie. Can you believe that? I may have to check that out, after I read the book of course 🙂
Eva – The Miss Marple book I read was the Body in the Library and I thought it was an easy, fun read. I’ll have to look for Sleeping Murder.
Ooh I read everything Agatha Christie ever wrote between the ages of 12 and 14. Some of my favourites are: Sleeping Murder, Murder in Mesopotamia, And Then There Were None, The ABC Murders, Cards on the Table and A Murder is Announced. I could go on, but I won’t.
I’m so glad to see Jacqueline Winspear on that list!! I need to read more Agatha Christie! Have you read the Murder of Roger Ackroyd? Very good!
litlove – Ooh, I’m taking note of the ones you mentioned and looking for those. Thank you!
Danielle – When is she coming out with the next one right? I can’t wait for the next Maisie Dobbs adventure. I haven’t read Roger Ackroyd. Also putting that one on my list. Thanks! 🙂
