It’s almost the weekend – yay. Anyone have big plans? Like a bookstore outing, a library sale or anything like that?
No big plans at Casa Bookgirl aside from finding more space in the bookshelves for some of the books that have arrived over the last couple of weeks. Want to hear about them?
- This One Is Mine by Maria Semple. I won this book thanks to a giveaway at Estella’s Revenge. I’ve seen a lot of people in the blogosphere mention this one so I think it’ll be a fun read.
- The Laws of Harmony by Judith Ryan Hendricks. Another book I won, this came via a giveaway Tara hosted. Her review made me want to read it so I’m a lucky girl to have this one.
- Somebody Else’s Daughter by Elizabeth Brundage. This ARC promises to be a page-turner with some disturbing characters, dark secrets and suspense.
- Behold, Here’s Poison and The Unfinished Clue by Georgette Heyer. Sourcebooks has done it again and is reprinting more of Georgette Heyer’s books. I’m very excited to read her mysteries.
- Feather Man by Rhyll McMaster. This is also another ARC about a young artist growing up in Brisbane, Australia during the 1950s.
- The Bridge of the Golden Horn by Emine Sevgi Ozdamar. This coming of age tale is about a 16 year old Turkish girl who leaves her native Istanbul to sign on as a migrant worker in Germany.
- The Post-Office Girl by Stefan Zweig. The Slaves of Golconda will be discussing this book at the end of the month so I better get started!
Alright, I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I plan to read a lot and hang out at the bookstore.

Have a great weekend! I have a ton of homework, so that will take over my weekend.
Have a good weekend! My plans are to just read and have some fun!
I really have no idea what we will be doing this weekend, which, with kids, is something that doesn’t happen often. I am in charge of the kids’ book fair, which is coming up in a couple of weeks, so that is all I have time for these days. I’m stressed. Once that is over, you bet I’ll treat myself to a trip to the bookstore (and a very large glass of wine)!
I am going to be packing boxes this weekend, preparing my car to be sold and hopefully getting some me time which will involve reading some of my chick-fiction book (Angels – Marian Keyes), playing some Guitar Hero and updating my blog! Busy, busy, busy!
I have The Laws of Harmony too and am really looking forward to reading it.
I just got a couple of Heyer mystery books to read as well and I am really looking forward to them. I’ll be watching for your thoughts on these. Enjoy your weekend 😉
Gosh, they all sound good! Have a good weekend of reading!
Jessica – Oh no, homework isn’t fun. Hope you’ll get to sneak in some other pages in there 🙂
Vasilly – Those sound like the best of plans! Enjoy!
Sandy – I can imagine that will get crazy especially as the event draws closer. So how many people are you guys expecting? You’ll have to take some pics! And, yes I think after that you should indulge in some wine 🙂
Claire – Yes, update your blog – I wanna see what you’ve been up to! Have a great one!
Stephanie – We’ll have to compare notes 🙂
Samantha – I can’t believe I just discovered Heyer a couple of years ago. Really missing out on some fun reads! Hope you enjoy your books too 🙂
Tara – I just want to jump in and read all! Let’s see what I end up choosing over the weekend 🙂
Look at all those new books! What fun! I have no bookstore plans this weekend. Just lots of reading planned. I started Post Office Girl but haven’t made it far so have to get going on that too! Enjoy!
Nice haul!
My plans involve drinking lots of win with some girlfirends, and watching girlie movies and do facials etc!
Then on Sunday I suspect I will be recovering from those events!
My big plans are all about getting some of these books read because we’ll be moving soon and I won’t have as much time to read.
Hi
Here’s a review of Post Office girl
http://theasylum.wordpress.com/2008/07/26/stefan-zweig-the-post-office-girl/
Have fun reading.
Wow, great bunch of books. Hoping I’ll be able to do a little reading this weekend, too. Have a good one!
Iliana, I’ve got an award waiting for you over at my blog!
My weekend has so far been filled with errands, but I hope tomorrow to spend the day reading! You’ve got some great books to read/find room for on your shelves! I got a few Heyers from Sourcebooks as well that I’m looking forward to reading. And of course can’t wait to start the Zweig.
Well, the weekend’s half over, but I’m anxious to get outside again today. We had lovely spring temps yesterday. Close to 70, so I sat out on our front porch and read for a bit. I’m loving my current read (The Help)!!
I read The Laws of Harmony in early February and LOVED it! You’re in for a treat.
Feather Man has caught my eye before, thanks for reminding me about it.
Enjoy your new books, hope you find space for them on the bookcase!
Talk about making space on the bookcase, it’s about time for weeding. I spent the day plowing through Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway, which can be difficult and slow at points as she lashes out these half-page sentence with 21 semi colons. She is more difficult to read than Toni Morrison!
Stefanie – I didn’t make it to Post Office Girl yet… I have the feeling I’ll be rushing this week 🙂
Marg – Lucky you – that sounds like bliss! Hope you and the girls had lots of fun!
Ladytink – Oh I hate movie. That really gets in the way of reading and blogging! Good luck 🙂
Isabel – Thanks for the review. I’ll definitely check it out!
Gentle Reader – Did you get to read a lot? I stayed away from the computer most of the weekend so I was able to catch up on my reading 🙂
Sandy – You are too sweet! I’m sorry I didn’t stop over the weekend but I was trying to stay away from the computer. Will visit soon! 🙂
Danielle – I had hoped to do more reading too but we had so much going on what with an event in town, parties, meeting with friends, etc. A fun weekend but now I feel like I’m behind all over again!
Les in NE – We’ve had great weather too. I wanted to start Laws of Harmony but I think I’m going to have to pick up the next Slaves book first otherwise I won’t make the discussion. Glad to hear you enjoyed it and hope you continue having great weather!
Dawn – I’d never heard of it before but it sounds really great. I’m looking forward to it!
Matthew – It’s definitely time for weeding for me. I’ll see what I can bear to part with 🙂 You know, I really liked Mrs. Dalloway but I’ve been hesitant to try anything else by Woolf. Hope you are enjoying the book!
looks like you had a great week in books! Happy reading!
Hope you had a fun weekend filled with book-fun!
The post office girl sounds really interesting.
So, are we going to need more bookshelves soon? 😉
Hope you had a nice weekend. The weather’s been lousy lately so we didn’t do much. Those all sound good! I look forward to your reviews.
Serena – I was a lucky girl wasn’t I? 🙂
christine – The weekend was a bit less book-filled than I expected but it was very good so no complaining 🙂 And, well, new bookshelves wouldn’t be a bad thing! haha…
tanabata – Oh that’s no good. Well hopefully you were in the mood for a lot of reading though. Sometimes those yucky days at least are good for reading 🙂
