Had a great time at book group this week where we discussed The House of the Vestals by Steven Saylor. Although this is a short story collection for the most part everyone found it enjoyable even if it wasn’t a group favorite. I’ll try to do a little write up of the book and post it soon.
We have some interesting reads ahead of us. The books are: The Last Taxi Ride, Boundary Waters, Blood, Salt, Water and Deadline. I’m excited to discover some new authors and series.
Speaking of mysteries, did you see that the Edgar 2016 Nominees have been announced? Several of these books are on my radar but I’ve only read, Unbecoming by Rebecca Schrem, which I did like quite a lot. Have you read any of these?
So that’s my quick post for tonight. I’ve had a busy week and am looking forward to the weekend. Not to mention that I have a couple of books due at the library this weekend and I’m not finished with them yet. What about you, what are you up to this weekend?
Always fun when your group has a good discussion. Looks like you guys have some nice books upcoming. Boundary Waters is a William Kent Krueger? And Blood, Salt, Water is a Mina book? I keep meaning to read Denise Mina’s books.
As to the Edgars, I’ve read a couple of the nominees – What She Knew and The Daughter. Have copies of several more. Does it seem to you that the ‘Best Mystery’ books have shifted a bit in their tone? I used to look at the nominees and never have read any of them or even have them on my TBR. These days, I’m much more successful with that.
Thank you for sharing the Edgar Nominees. I see a few familiar titles on the list, but only a couple I have read: What She Knew and The Child Garden. A couple of others are on my TBR list. I hope you have a great week, Iliana.
I wasn’t expecting good weather today, so I was surprised when it was cool and sunny. I took a long walk!
I have also started reading Slade House by David Mitchell. A bit creepy.
