How is it that not only books to be read pile up but also the books that I’ve read and want to tell you about?! It’s a mystery. But anyway, today I finally put together some quick notes on some recent reads.
First, a book I really enjoyed which was Maggie Again by John D. Husband. A bit of time-travel mixed into this tale of friendship and growing up. I was pleasantly surprised by this book which proved to be a nice comfort read. You can read more about it here.
The other book which I was really looking forward to was Forgive Me by Amanda Eyre Ward. I really wanted to like this book but found it a bit flawed. I think it would have been a great story if there had been just a bit less going on. The author seemed to be juggling lots of ideas for this story. You can read more of my thoughts here.
Hopefully I’ll tell you about some of my other reads soon, but now I better get back to the books. Today I just received two ARCs which I’m looking forward to they are: Keeper and Kid by Edward Hardy and The Ten-Year Nap by Meg Wolitzer.
Oh and in case you are looking for some great reads in the blogosphere you must check out the March Bookworms Carnival hosted by Myrthe. Finally, for those of us who can’t get enough of reading challenges, check out this cute button thanks to Mrs. S. I would post it on my sidebar as I think it’s fitting but I’m still saving room over there for a couple of more challenges I’m planning to join. Heh.
Thanks for the two great reviews, Iliana. Both sounds like a great read… I’m particulary drawn to the premise of Forgive Me though. Now I must check out the Bookworms Carnival and read what other readers are saying about the books they’re reading. 🙂
The button is so cute! I’ll have to add it onto my blog! Thanks for sharing. 😀
It must be a day for ARC’s because I got a couple in the mail today as well. 🙂
I enjoyed Forgive Me, but I agree that it was flawed. At times I thought I was reading two different books.
I hope you have a great Tuesday, Iliana!
Thanks for the shout-out about the Carnival, Iliana!
Love that button! LOL, gonna have to wear that one with pride.
As for the books, you’re a lucky duck getting an ARC of the Wolitzer book. I have The Position, one of her earlier books, waiting on my TBR. Heather sent it to me a couple of years ago. Guess I need to hurry up and read it, eh? Story of my life!
Forgive Me annoyed me for the most part. The funny thing is that I have it up for my next give-away.
I’m dying to read Maggie Again, but I think it’s going to stay on my wish list for a while. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Melody – It was a great premise for the book. Even though I had some problems with it, I was surprised at how into the story I was. Beware of the carnival – lots of good stuff 🙂
Literary Feline – Ooh I hope you got some good ones! Good point about Forgive Me and I do think that’s true. You know, I wish they had skipped the first chapter. It almost seemed unnecessary.
Myrthe – It’s a great roundup!
Andi – Isn’t it cute! I know what you mean, the ARCs are piling up and I’m just not reading fast enough. Now that’s a superpower I wouldn’t mind having. hee.
jenclair – She got on my nerves and I so wanted to like her and understand her. I am surprised her friend was still her friend you know. Anyway, maybe whoever wins your giveaway will love it so that’s a good thing.
Nancy, aka Bookfool – It’s really sweet and there are some good humorous moments too!
Maggie Again sounds really good. And I just love that button 😀
I read Keeper and the Kid…..let me know what you think…..It was good.
I felt the same way about Forgive Me. It was rather schizophrenic, and I couldn’t seem to make myself care about the main character.
Love that button! I’ve managed to keep my challenge participation to a minimum, but it isn’t easy!
Nymeth – I think I need to figure out a way to get that button made and attach it to my book bag 🙂
Nancy – Oh cool. I’ll keep you posted!
ravenous reader – She was a hard one to like wasn’t she? I’ve gone nuts with the challenges!
I feel bad as I’ve had a copy of the Ward book for a while and haven’t gotten around to it. I’ve heard it is a little disapppointing, which makes me not want to pick it up right away…
I’m looking for a nice comfort read, so I was excited about Maggie Again. Unfortunately, the library doesn’t have a copy. C’est la vie.
I have a copy of Maggie Again winging it’s way to me and am looking forward to reading it! Thanks for sharing the link to my button too :0)
