I had such a good weekend and was able to do a bit of, well what seemed like everything. I like those kinds of weekends you know.
Saturday I took workshop at the Craft Guild of Dallas and made a long-stitch journal. I need to take some pictures of it to show you. I also found out that the Guild of Bookworkers is having a seminar in Dallas in mid-October. I would like to go but it’s kind of pricey. I think I’d rather sign up for more classes instead.
I also got to see two movies this weekend. 2 Days in Paris and Becoming Jane. The movies were fun and best of all I got see one of them with Christine.
Finally, I started and am almost finished with The Society of S by Susan Hubbard. This is my third R.I.P. II Challenge book and it’s been really good so far. Quite a different take on the vampire story. Speaking of vampires, two book groups (Our Coffee Rings and Reading Matters) have Dracula by Bram Stoker as their next selection. I think this is a sign that I finally need to read the book.
For now I’m looking forward to tomorrow – it’s book group night!
My son read Dracula this summer and I have never read it. Imagine my chagrin when I realized my 11-year-old son has read several classics I’ve never gotten around to–Dracula, Frankenstein, and Beowulf. I really should remedy this sad situation and try to catch up with him! Let me know if you read Dracula, and if you like it!
Should I go see Becoming Jane? I’ve been toying with the idea for awhile, so it may just be that I wait for the video…
The Society of S sounds good. I followed the link and the review really interests me. Looking forward to your review.
Dracula provides such an excellent background for all vampire books. Hope you enjoy it!
I enjoyed Becoming Jane and it reminded me that I need to read more about her history….
I am definitely looking forward to the Book Group meeting tomorrow.
I can’t believe that you have energy to take a class and recoverying from jet lag!
Ah, too be young!
Sounds like you have a lot of fun. The RIP II challenge has been cool so far and I am looking forward to reading more for it. Hope you get your long stitch journal pictures up soon…
I’ve been curious about “Becoming Jane,” since I love Jane Austen, but wonder how accurate the story is.
Well, I can’t wait to hear yours and your reading groups’ thoughts on Dracula.
Glad you will be able to take the Horror Short Story Short Challenge too!
Did you really like Becoming Jane? I have such a resistance to getting a Hollywood image of her in my head…
I envy your being able to take those sorts of craft classes. I would love something like that, but I have not come across anything like that locally. Sounds like a fun weekend!
Gentle Reader – Oh that’s too funny. Yes, you need to catch up now! I think you could definitely wait for Becoming Jane to go on DVD. I really don’t know anything about Jane Austen’s life but I’m assuming they took a lot of creative license.
jenclair – I’ll do a review on Society of S this week. I really enjoyed it. The end falters a bit but still a good read. I haven’t started Dracula yet but I’m looking forward to it.
Christine – I really want to read more by Jane Austen now! See you at book group on tuesday!
Isabel – Ha,ha… Well the jetlag is definitely over. Please keep telling me I’m still young.
Rhiona – I love the R.I.P. Challenge. I’m so excited that I’m actually doing so well with it. Not so much my other challenges but that’s ok.
Karen Olson – If anything I would love to know more about her life. I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve been to the Jane Austen museum in Bath one time but I must have been jet lagged or something because I can barely remember anything of it.
LK – Well, I still can’t quite decide which short stories to read… It may be that I read at whim. Thank you for hosting the challenge. Oh and I did like Becoming Jane but I didn’t take it too seriously as you can’t rely on Hollywood for historical stuff.
Danielle – I just wished they offered more! I was so bummed out though because I missed signing up for a semester long bookbinding workshop. It started early September and as I was on vacation I missed the beginning. Maybe next year.
Two Days in Paris looks teriffic – it only showed here briefly so I’ll be looking for the DVD.
Tara – It was very funny then again I really enjoy Julie Delpy. She’s so out there and she’s great in this.
